    摘要: A novel and improved method and apparatus for planning a wireless telecommunications network. An electronic representation of wireless telecommunications system can be configured within a given market area and the operation of that wireless telecommunications system simulated. The simulation is performed using a set of databases that contain terrain and population information associated with the market area over which the wireless network in configured. To perform the simulation a composite propagation loss matrix and a demand and service vector are generated using the terrain and population information, as well as the configuration of the wireless telecommunications network. Once the composite propagation loss matrix and the demand and service vector are generated an analysis of the reverse link is performed. Subsequently, an analysis of the forward link is performed. During both the reverse and forward link analysis the multiple iterations of analysis are performed until a stable result is achieved. Upon completion of the reverse and forward link analysis, the results of the simulation are displayed in a graphical manner for examination.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for efficiently transmitting location assistance information to a mobile communication device over a control channel with a minimal impact on the capacity of the control channel. A position location server provides a difference between satellite locations which have been computed using Almanac data and then Ephemeris data. Sending only the difference between the locations and clock corrections computed using the two different data types, the total amount of information to be transmitted to a mobile communication device is significantly reduced. Furthermore, by providing rate of change information, the method and apparatus allows the location assistance information to remain valid for a relatively long time after it is has been received by the mobile communication device.

    摘要: A wireless remote telemetry system which uses low-cost remote communication devices operating on existing wireless communication systems in order to provide real-time reading and control of remote devices. In an embodiment applicable to utility service, consumption of electrical power among a population of customers is measured by a utility metering system having a wireless communication capability. The metering system comprises a remote metering unit which communicates with a central controller over existing wireless communication systems, such as cellular base stations, using existing communication standards. The remote metering unit transmits various messages over a shared random access channel to a central controller. The central controller transmits messages to the remote metering unit over a paging channel. The remote metering unit may operate in a half-duplex mode only. Furthermore, the remote metering unit may provide a gateway to advanced consumer services at the remote location.

    摘要: Methods, systems, and devices are described for providing a reconfigurable multi-chip WWAN processing platform on a communications device. The processing platform allows the device to access multiple WWANs and multiple WWAN technologies concurrently. A first multiplexer is communicatively coupled with a number of baseband processing chips. A first baseband processing chip is selectively coupled with a first transceiver and a first UICC module to establish a first connection. A second baseband processing chip is selectively coupled with a second transceiver and a second UICC module to establish a second connection operable concurrently with the first connection. A multiplexer controller performs a configurable search for available networks. One or more networks are selected. The controller selects a specific transceiver for each selected network based on the capabilities of the transceiver. Baseband processing chips that consume less power serve as proxies for other baseband processing chips that consume more power.

    摘要: A novel power conservation scheme is provided for conserving power in client terminals by using a proxy server. The client terminal, having a low-power communication interface and a high-power communication interface, may power down its high-power communication interface, to conserve power. Prior to shutting off its high-power communication interface, the client terminal may assign an access point to act as a proxy for the client terminal. The access point monitors the paging channels for the client terminal. If the access point detects a paging message for the client terminal, it forwards at least a portion of the paging message to the client terminal via a low-power communication interface. Upon receipt of the paging message from the access point via its low-power communication interface, the client terminal may power up its high-power communication interface and directly respond to the access terminal.

    摘要: A method is provided for reducing the search space of an acquiring ultra wideband (UWB) device seeking to join an UWB communication system, such as a Multi-band orthogonal frequency divisional multiplexing (OFDM) UWB system, by providing wireless network information, such as the hopping pattern or Time-Frequency Code (TFC), timing and frequency information to the acquiring UWB device. The wireless network information is provided using a short range wireless module such as Bluetooth that may coexist with a UWB device. For example, an assisting UWB device, via a short range Bluetooth device module, may convey initial synchronization information, to the acquiring UWB device that also may have a coexisting UWB module. By knowing the TFC, timing and frequency information the acquiring UWB device may know the approximate beginning of the superframes of the UWB devices in the UWB communication system which may help reduce power consumption and probability of false alarm.

    摘要: An orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) transmitter may adaptively load each sub-carrier, buffering less than an OFDM frame in order to reduce hardware requirements and latency. The transmitter may use feedback information from the receiver regarding the quality of the sub-carriers. In addition, combining repetition and puncturing to achieve a desired date rate per class further reduces hardware by simplifying or even eliminating an interleaver. Additional mitigation and even performance enhancement techniques are incorporated to address inter-class boundaries within an OFDM frame, such as introducing transition classes. Channel state information may be reported in various formats including full bitmap, changed subchannels, and reported bad subchannels.
