Abstract: At least one video stream that is encoded video information, and a management information file indicating attributes relating to the entire recording medium, are recorded in a recording medium. The management information file includes attribute information indicating whether the dynamic range of luminance of an initial video stream, which is played first out of the at least one video stream when the recording medium is inserted into a playback device, is a first dynamic range, or a second dynamic range that is broader than the first dynamic range.

Abstract: According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a transmission method for enabling transmission of content using a broadcast wave and a communication channel includes: transmitting auxiliary information using at least the broadcast wave, the auxiliary information being information for synchronizing content transmission using the broadcast wave and content transmission using the communication channel when the content is transmitted using the broadcast wave and the communication channel, and the auxiliary information causing a reception side to perform the synchronization when the reception side receives the auxiliary information. Therefore, even if timing of starting reception of the content through the communication is delayed, the reception side can play back the content by a combination of the broadcasting and the communication.

Abstract: A playback device includes: an attribute reader that reads out first attribute information, indicating whether a dynamic range of luminance of the video stream is a first dynamic range or a second dynamic range, from a management information file recorded in the recording medium in a manner correlated with the video stream; a decoder that generates decoded video information by reading the video stream out from the recording medium and decoding the video stream; and an outputter that, in a case where the first attribute information that has been read out indicates the second dynamic range, outputs the decoded video information, along with maximum luminance information indicating a maximum luminance of the video stream in accordance with the second dynamic range.

Abstract: A recording medium according an aspect of the present disclosure has recorded therein a main video stream where a main video has been encoded, and a sub-video stream where a sub-video, that is to be superimposed on the main video and displayed, has been encoded. The sub-video stream includes bitmap data indicating a design of the sub-video and palette data specifying the display color of the design. The palette data includes first palette data for a first luminance dynamic range (SDR), and second palette data for a second luminance dynamic range (HDR) that is broader than the first dynamic range.

Abstract: A transmission method includes generating one or more frames for content transfer using IP (Internet Protocol) packets, and transmitting the one or more generated frames by broadcast. Each of the one or more frames contains a plurality of second transfer units, each of the plurality of second transfer units contains one or more first transfer units, and each of the one or more first transfer units contains at least one of the IP packets. An object IP packet of the IP packets which is stored in a first transfer unit positioned at a head in the one or more frames contains reference clock information that indicates time for reproduction of the content in data structure different from data structure of an MMT (MPEG Media Transport) packet, and header compression processing on the object IP packet is omitted.

Abstract: An encoder includes circuitry and memory coupled to the circuitry. The circuitry, in operation, for each coefficient of a plurality of coefficients included in a block, determines a base level relating to Context-Based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding (CABAC) for the coefficient, and encodes an absolute value of the coefficient. In determining the base level, when one or more flags are used in encoding the absolute value of the coefficient, the base level is determined to be a first value, and when one or more flags are not used in the encoding, the base level is determined to be a second value that is smaller than the first value. In encoding the absolute value of the coefficient, when one or more flags are not used, a rice parameter is determined based on the base level which is equal to the second value, and the coefficient is binarized using the rice parameter.

Abstract: A decoder includes a memory and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry, in operation, changes values of pixels in a first block and a second block to filter a boundary therebetween, using clipping such that change amounts of the respective values are within respective clip widths. The clip widths for the pixels in the first block and the second block are selected based on block sizes of the first block and the second block. The pixels in the first block include a first pixel located at a first position, and the pixels in the second block include a second pixel located at a second position corresponding to the first position with respect to the boundary. The clip widths include a first clip width and a second clip width corresponding to the first pixel and the second pixel, respectively, and the first clip width is different from the second width.
