Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide a handover may be performed based on one or more conditions at a UE and in conjunction with a handover procedure from a source base station to a target base station. The one or more conditions at the UE may be associated with successful establishment or maintenance of the second connection. In some cases, the one or more conditions at the UE may correspond to one or more measurements associated with the source base station, the target base station, one or more neighboring base stations, or any combinations thereof.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatus for improving UL-based mobility. As described herein, a UE may determine it has failed to decode a first keep alive (KA) signal during a wake period of a discontinuous receive (DRx) cycle and may extend the wake period to monitor for a second KA signal, in response to the determination. An access network controller may select, while a (UE) is currently served by a first transmit/receive point (TRP), a second TRP to serve the UE, configure the first TRP to transmit a first keep alive (KA) signal, in response to a chirp signal received from the UE, and configure the second TRP to transmit a second KA signal after the first KA signal transmitted by the first TRP.

Abstract: Discovery and synchronization channels are discussed for user-tracking zones in a cellular network. User-tracking zones reduce the mobility tracking burden on the UE and shift the tracking responsibility to the network. This shift allows for UE and network power savings from reduced searching at the UE as well as through efficient paging area tracking and less broadcast signaling. The various aspects provide channel design for initial synchronization and discovery of the user-tracking zones. A single frequency network (SFN) synchronization channel is provided with at least a reference signal for time synchronization and payload information that may include a zone identifier (ID), formatting for a system information transmission request, and resource allocation for the request. The zone ID may be included in the payload or embedded into the reference signal. Facility is also provided for handling zone nodes of different power classes that allows for maintaining the SFN operations.

Abstract: Various aspects described herein relate to techniques for mobility mode selection in uplink-based and downlink-based mobility in wireless communications systems. In an aspect, a method for wireless communications may include determining that a user equipment (UE) is operating in a first mobility mode, determining whether the UE satisfies at least one condition associated with mobility of the UE for mobility mode selection, and selecting a second mobility mode based on a determination that the UE satisfies the at least one condition, wherein each of the first mobility mode and the second mobility mode is an uplink mobility mode or a downlink mobility mode. The techniques described herein may apply to different communications technologies, including the 5th Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) communications technology.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may receive a compressed paging message broadcast from a base station, and transmit a connection request in response. The wireless device may include a paging response indication (e.g., indicating the connection request results from a received, false or genuine, paging request) and a wireless device identification (e.g., a UE ID) into the modified connection request. The base station may identify the connection request is in response to a paging broadcast by receiving the paging response indication, and determine if the connection request occurred in response to a false paging alert by comparing the received UE ID to the uncompressed paging request message list. If a match is found, the base station may transmit a connection establishment request. If a match is not found the base station may transmit a connection rejection message to the wireless device.

Abstract: LUE capability information is provided for coordination across multiple RATs or for single-RAT connectivity where UE capabilities may change or be reported according to capability groups. A base station may establish a first connection with a UE using a first RAT, and determine that the first connection is to be reconfigured, such as due to data transmission requirements exceeding the capacity of the currently configured connection. The base station may receive UE capability information, such as in response to a capability query transmitted to the UE. The base station may reconfigure the connection with the UE based on the UE capability response through initiating a second connection with a second base station using a second RAT, through reconfiguring the first connection, or combinations thereof.

For example, in certain aspects, a mobile device for establishing one or more first data flows with a first network entity, determining a link recovery configuration, the link recovery configuration having information related to establishing a second data flow in the event of a link failure at the first network entity, wherein the link recovery configuration comprises a list of network entities, detecting a link failure at the first network entity affecting a service associated with the first data flows, and recovering the service associated with the first data flows from the link failure by selecting a second network entity from the list of network entities and establishing the second data flow associated with the service based on the link recovery configuration.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed for selecting service-specific cells that considers additional information about service availability at the cells. A base station stores service availability information in system information. A UE searching for a service-specific cell on which to camp receives the system information with service availability. The UE analyzes its service requirements against the service availability as well as measured radio conditions and selects a cell that enables service-specific support on which to camp. When a change occurs to availability of the service support at the base station, it notifies the camped UE of the change and the UE obtains the changed system information to determine whether to reselect a different cell on which to camp. When a service-specific cell is not available, the UE may select a suitable cell for normal service and periodically perform cell reselection in an attempt to again camp on a service-specific cell.
