Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a relay user equipment (UE) establishes a sidelink with a remote UE to provide one or more UE-to-network relay services to the remote UE, monitors paging occasions (POs) in a first bandwidth part (BWP), receives a page from a serving base station during a PO in the first BWP, and forwards the page to the remote UE over the sidelink in an initial sidelink BWP. In another aspect, the relay UE receives downlink control information (DCI) from a serving base station for a downlink grant for the remote UE, receives downlink data for the remote UE from the serving base station, transmits sidelink control information (SCI) instructing the remote UE to switch from a first sidelink BWP to a second sidelink BWP, and forwards the downlink data to the remote UE over the second sidelink BWP of the sidelink.

The remote UE may select the relay UE based on a set of criteria for selecting a candidate relay UE. The remote UE and the relay UE may establish the relay communications based on the relay discovery announcement transmitted on the communications channel of the relay sidelink.
