Abstract: An improved method and system of optimizing handling and sending of reachability notifications for a UE is disclosed. Solutions and implementations disclosed provide an efficient mechanism for determining the timing and duration of reachability periods for a UE and as a result predicting future reachability periods. This enables sending of one notification with sufficient information to inform the network of the time periods during which the UE is reachable instead of sending a notification each time the device becomes reachable.

Abstract: A system described herein may provide a mechanism for efficiently delivering messages to a User Equipment (“UE”) associated with a wireless telecommunications network, such as a UE that is frequently in an inactive state. A message for the UE may be received and buffered. Once the network determines that the UE has transitioned from the inactive state to the active state (e.g., as detected by a Mobility Management Entity (“MME”) or an Access and Mobility Management Function (“AMF”)), the buffered message may be provided to the UE using control plane signaling.

Abstract: A computer device may include a memory storing instructions and a processor configured to execute the instructions to select a broadcast method for a wakeup signal for a wireless communication device; instruct a base station to broadcast the wakeup signal using the selected broadcast method; and provide information identifying the selected broadcast method to the wireless communication device. The processor may be further configured to receiving a wakeup request from a machine-type communication interworking function (MTC-IWF) device; map the received wakeup request to a wakeup signature beacon signal associated with the wireless communication device; and instruct the base station to transmit a wakeup signature beacon signal to the wireless communication device based on the received wakeup request.

Abstract: Systems described herein use a group packet data network (PDN) to support communications from machine-type communications (MTC) devices on wireless networks. The systems assign a MTC device to a group with a group identifier, the group associating the MTC device, and other MTC devices, with a customer network; receive an attach request from the MTC device; retrieve the group identifier for the MTC device; configure a bearer path between the MTC device and the customer network based on the group identifier, the bearer path including a group PDN that transports data packets from the MTC device, and the other MTC devices, between a serving gateway (SGW) and a PDN gateway (PGW); and send data packets from the MTC device over the group PDN.

Abstract: A device may detect an event associated with a user device. The event may include at least one of a data reachability event, a loss of connectivity event, or a loss of reachability event. The device may determine, based on detecting the event, event information associated with the event. The event information may include information that identifies a type of a packet data network (PDN) connection when the event includes a data reachability event. The event information may include information that identifies a reason for detachment from a network when the event includes a loss of connectivity event. The event information may include information indicating that one or more PDN connections have been closed when the event includes a loss of reachability event. The device may provide the event information for reporting to one or more devices that are to receive event reports associated with the user device.

Abstract: A wireless communication device may include a baseband processing unit comprising a wakeup detector configured to receive a wireless signature beacon signal; determine that the received wireless signature beacon signal matches the selected wakeup signature beacon signal; and generate a wake up signal, in response to determining that the received wireless signature beacon signal matches the selected wakeup signature beacon signal. The wireless communication device may further include an application processing unit comprising a power manager configured to cause the wireless communication device to enter a power saving mode; receive the wake up signal from the wakeup detector; and perform a wakeup process, in response to receiving the wakeup signal wherein the wakeup process causes the wireless communication device to exit the power saving mode.

Abstract: A base station may include logic configured to determine system throughput values for a plurality of modulation and coding schemes based on data throughput values and based on a number of user equipment (UE) devices serviced by the base station; determine a modulation and coding scheme, of the plurality of coding schemes, that is associated with a highest system throughput; and determine radio frequency (RF) conditions associated with the base station. The logic may further be configured to define a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) area based on the determined RF conditions and the selected modulation and coding scheme and provide an update to the UE devices serviced by the base station, wherein UE devices located within the defined MBMS area are sent the update using MBMS and UE devices located outside the defined MBMS area are sent the update using unicast.
