Abstract: An example of an apparatus including a communication interface to receive an image file is provided. The image file represents a scanned image of a output generated by a printing device. The apparatus further includes an identification engine to process the image file with a convolutional neural network model to identify a feature. The feature may be indicative of a potential failure. The apparatus also includes an image analysis engine to indicate a life expectancy of a part associated with the potential failure based on the feature. The image analysis engine uses the convolutional neural network model to determine life expectancy.

Abstract: A method for measuring sign (lexical) recognition ability in American Sign Language (ASL) embodies an adaptive sign recognition test that includes a calibrated item pool, each item having a difficulty value (di) and associated standard error (se). Test items are administered to a group of individuals spanning a wide range of ASL abilities to obtain responses. The responses are subjected to Rasch scaling analysis. The adaptive sign recognition test can be administered to an individual to determine their level of ability in ASL.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for pool boiling includes introducing a fluid into a chamber of a housing which has one or more protruding features. One or more diverters extend at least partially across the one or more protruding features in the chamber. One or more bubbles are formed in the fluid in the chamber as a result of bubble nucleation. At least one of growth and motion of the one or more of the bubbles are diverted with the one or more diverters to generate additional localized motion of the fluid along at least one of the one or more protruding features and other surfaces in the chamber of the housing to at least of transfer additional heat to the liquid and increase the critical heal flux limit.

Abstract: Porous metal coatings are produced by multi-step electrodeposition method involving application of higher current density at lower duration and lower current density for longer durations. During higher current step, the evolved hydrogen bubbles serve as the self-collapsing templates to deposit the metal ions and during lower current density at longer duration step, the coating is applied to improve the bond strength. The multi-step depositions by alternating these steps provides the development of more complex porous structures that can have desired interconnectivity between the pores and have desired morphology, and desired wettability and wickability characteristics, and have a good bond strength between the coated layers as well as coated layers and the base substrate.

Determining the aortic valve opening includes collecting BCG data while sitting on a seat and determining the timing of the aortic valve opening, taking into account posture. Measuring the aortic pulse wave transit time includes collecting BCG data while sitting on a seat capable of measuring changes in apparent weight; determining the timing of the aortic valve opening; detecting the arrival of the pulse wave at the end point; and measuring the relative timings of the two events. Calculating the PWV includes determining a length of the arterial segment through which a pulse wave is to be measured between a start point and an end point; and dividing the determined length of the arterial segment by the PTT.
