摘要： An image reading unit includes an image sensor for converting light from a document into an electric signal, and a circuit board provided with the image sensor on one side. In the image reading unit, a heat dissipating member for controlling a temperature of the image sensor is attached to one side of the circuit board, and a shield member for reducing a noise is provided on the other side of the circuit board. The heat dissipating member and the shield member are connected by a heat conductive member. Also, the heat dissipating member is interposed between the image sensor and the circuit board.

摘要： A compact specular reflection type image pickup unit has a light source 11 mounted at a position a specified distance away from the target surface of an original P, and the light source 11 emits an outgoing light ph 11 at an angle &thgr; to the normal to the target surface. As a consequence, the height of the housing 15A is smaller by L1 than that of the housing 5.

摘要： A scanner unit has first and second carriages under an original table glass. The first carriage has a first frame extending from a front side to a rear side along the original table, that is, in a main scan direction. Two rails for supporting both end portions of the first frame such that the first frame may slide in a sub-scan direction are provided on the front side and rear side of the scanner unit. A cold cathode fluorescent lamp is mounted on the first frame. In order to make a high-voltage-side harness of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp as short as possible, an inverter circuit board, which is a lighting circuit, is disposed as close as possible to a positive electrode of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp. A weight is attached on a side opposite to the inverter circuit board, thereby to stabilize a weight balance of the first frame in the main scan direction.

The printed wiring boards are in turn mounted on a second layer of printed wiring board material. The two layers of printed wiring board material are attached so that the seams between adjacent printed wiring boards in each layer alternate in a brick-like fashion. This structure enables arrays of semiconductor chips to be constructed in relatively long lengths, with minimal risk of damage caused by thermal stresses.

The support member has lower strength portions spaced longitudinally of the head, and higher strength portions alternate with the lower strength portions. The support member is easily bendable at the lower strength portions, and the higher strength portions are urged by springs toward the platen. Thus, the head can come into intimate pressing contact with the platen even if the surface flatness of the support member as a whole is not strictly realized.
