摘要: Deep, narrow, hollow articles are made of metal by explosive forming a shallow vessel, trimming the sheet to the desired shape at the edges thereof, dividing it, reorienting the divided members so that the flanges of the formed sheet which were opposite each other, are now in juxtaposition, and joining the contacting edges from end to end thereof.

摘要: First workpieces, for example, beam-leaded integrated circuits, and the like, are bonded to second workpieces, for example, metallized ceramic substrates by first depositing a quantity of primary explosive, such as lead azide, onto each beam lead and then detonating the explosive to explosively bond the integrated circuits to the substrate. In another embodiment of the invention, the explosive bonding force is applied through a buffer sheet of plastic or metallic material which protects the surface of the substrate from contamination and which, in addition, dampens the shock of the explosion. In yet another embodiment of the invention, metal conductive paths are explosively bonded directly to a ceramic or glass substrate to form a ''''printed circuit pattern.'''' The same techniques are used to manufacture resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc. In another embodiment in an explosive metal-working process the explosive charge is applied to the workpiece through apertures in a stencil or through windows of a silk-screen to form a plurality of discrete explosive charges.

摘要: A hollow body such as a nuclear fuel pencil is exhausted of air and filled with a desired gaseous atmosphere through an opening in the body while within a gas-tight enclosure, is sealed together with a closure member for the opening within a gas-tight flexible bag. The bag containing the body and closure member is removed from the enclosure and the closure member welded to the body by magnetic exploding coil welding while in the bag.

摘要: An arrangement in detonation joining of high tension lines, cables and the like in which the core ends of the lines to be joined are connected by a steel tube compressed around same and the line ends are connected by a main connecting aluminum tube compressed around same and the steel tube. The steel tube is provided with crosssection reducing grooves or slots so adapted that a complete and safe joint can be procured by means of a single explosive charge which is placed external on the main connecting tube and during detonation causes the main connecting tube to compress around the line ends and simultaneously around the steel tube compressing same around the core ends.

摘要: A die is located in a receptacle and has an exposed surface of predetermined contour which it is desired to impart to a workpiece. Support means is provided for supporting a workpiece proximal to the exposed surface in such position relative to the latter as to be deformable into conformance with the exposed surface. A shock energy transmitting medium is accommodated in the receptacle surrounding the die and the workpiece. Shockenergy producing means is provided for producing shock-energy in the medium. Shock-energy transfer means is interposed between the medium and the workpiece for receiving shock energy from the former and for transmitting on optimum amount of the shock energy to the latter.

摘要: Method of and apparatus for the shock-wave forming of metallic and other workpieces in which an electrical discharge in a liquid produces a shock wave, preferably in a power jet directed against the workpiece. The discharge is produced between a pair of permanent electrodes with a gap between them temporarily bridged at least in part by a fusible conductor. The electrical supply preferably includes at least one high-voltage, low-current source for initiating the discharge and at least one high-current, lowvoltage source for sustaining the discharge thereafter. Control of the power jet is effected by fluidic methods using transverse jets of the same or another fluid, preferably under the control of a programmer.

摘要: Electroforming system including a tubular forming apparatus and a switch means for connecting an electrical power source to any one of a plurality of such forming apparatus. The forming apparatus includes two die portions which are wedgedly engaged by die support means to maintain the die portions in a closed position during the electroforming operation. End covers having novel seal means and electrodes are provided to enclose a workpiece within the die assembly. The switch means includes a first pair of conductive plates which is connected by coaxial cables to the power supply. A pair of plates is also provided for each forming apparatus and is connected by coaxial cables to the electrodes of the forming apparatus. The latter plates are movably mounted to abut the first pair of plates. A shorting bar is provided which abuts the first pair of plates when no plates are in an abutting position with the first two pairs.
