    摘要: A system and method for high-speed radiographic inspection of fluid transport vessels in which a radiation source and a radiation detector are positioned on opposite sides of the outside surface of the vessel. A positioning system is provided for moving and locating the radiation source and radiation detector longitudinally with respect to the vessel and for moving the radiation source and radiation detector circumferentially with respect to the vessel. In operation, the positioning system causes the radiation source and radiation detector to spiral along the vessel in a coordinated manner while the radiation source illuminates an adjacent region of the vessel with radiation. The radiation is converted into corresponding electrical signals used to generate images of objects in the radiation path. Finally, an operator inspects the images for defects.

    摘要: A tire includes at least a pair of breaker plies each having a plurality of wire codes of different orientation. In a tire testing apparatus, a tire is loaded to a test position and electromagnetic wave having a wavelength equal to or shorter than X-ray is irradiated to transmit a tread surface of one of test portions of the tire loaded at the test position. A detector detects the electromagnetic wave to produce a test image signal. A measuring section executes a processing of at least one test item on the pair of breaker plies to a test image data and automatically determines whether the test position of the tire is defective or non-defective, from the processing result of the test image data. A control section determines whether all the test portions of the tire are tested, when the tire is determined to be non-defective at the one test portion, issues a rotate command to rotate the tire for another test position if all the test portions of said tire are not yet ended, and issues a first unload command if all the test portions are ended.

    摘要: A method for measuring a mass distribution of a shaft in a longitudinal axis direction thereof includes the steps of firstly, setting a plurality of measuring areas on a shaft to be measured. The measuring areas are split in the longitudinal axis direction of the shaft. Secondly, a constant amount of .beta. rays are emitted onto each measuring area from one side of the shaft in the radial direction. The amount of .beta. rays transmitted through the measuring areas of the shaft is measured at the other side of the shaft. Thirdly, the diameter of the shaft at each measuring area is measured to obtain a relative mass distribution of the shaft in the longitudinal axis direction in accordance with the.beta. ray data representing the amount of .beta. rays transmitted through each measuring area and the diameter data. A method for measuring a mass distribution of a shaft in the circumferential direction thereof is also disclosed. The invention is also directed to an apparatus for carrying out the above measuring method.

    摘要: A blackline indictor for use in tomographic and/or radioscopic inspection of a weld joint is disclosed. The indicator includes a first elongated member having a first end and a second end and a second elongated member juxtaposed to said first member and also having a first end and a second end. The first ends of the elongated members are in contact with one another, and a spacer is disposed between the first and second members to position the second ends of the members at a selected distance from one another. The selected distance is at least equal to a thickness of the weld joint under inspection, and the first and second members and the spacer define a calibrated wedge shaped gap which is radiographically imageable to permit determination and control of the x-ray inspection parameters. The blackline indicator constituents may be magnetized to hold the constituents together and to permit attachment of the indicator to a workpiece under inspection in a position where the calibrated wedge shaped gap will be substantially superimposed over the weld joint in a radiographic image thereof with one of the elongated members being substantially parallel to the weld joint.

A gamma ray emitter is provided with guide means enabling it to be piloted longitudinally along the wooden pole so that gamma rays from the emitter pass diametrically through the wooden pole along a longitudinal axis of the pole. The attenuation of the gamma rays are continuously recorded along the longitudinal axis, and a permanent record of the variation in gamma ray attenuation is made, from which it can be determined whether the pole is healthy or decayed, and if decayed, the location of the decay along the pole. In order to facilitate locating decay in the pole, the guide means includes an odometer programmed to provide an electrical pulse every 15 cm which is recorded with the data of gamma ray attenuation. Once data on gamma ray attenation has been recorded along one longitudinal axis of the pole, the device may be used on a longitudinal axis at 90.degree. to the first axis, in order to pinpoint the latitude and extent of decay points in the wooden pole.
