    摘要: Hollow, polymeric, acrylate, infusible, inherently tacky, solvent-insoluble, solvent-dispersible, elastomeric pressure-sensitive adhesive microspheres having an average diameter of at least about 1 micrometer. Preferred microspheres are those wherein a majority of the hollow microspheres contain at least one of interior void having a diamter of at least 10% of the diameter of the microsphere.These hollow microspheres are useful as repositionable pressure-sensitive adhesives. The invention also provides pressure-sensitive adhesives consisting essentially of such hollow microspheres. Aqueous suspensions of these microspheres, processes for their preparation, spray repositionable pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions, and microsphere-coated sheet materials are also provided. Surprisingly, hollow microspheres of the invention show reduced or even eliminated adhesive transfer, in comparison with prior art repositionable pressure-sensitive adhesives which are based on solid microspheres.

    摘要: The inventive vehicle, or binder, for water based gloss paints contains, dispersed in a aqueous phase, particles of a multiphase emulsion polymer made up of(a) core material having a glass transition temperature exceeding 40.degree. C. and(b) a shell material having a glass transition temperature of less than 70.degree. C. and at least 20 K. below that of the core material.The particles have an average diameter of less than 200 nm. The composition of the shell material includes an emulsion polymer with at least 4 percent by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and more than 80 percent by weight of one or more monomers from the group consisting of styrene and alkyl esters of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid. Paint coats produced with this vehicle are distinguished by a high blocking point.

    摘要: The present invention provides for a process for preparing hollow polymer latexes by a one stage emulsion polymerization. The first step invloves introducing an effective amount of a first charge of a organic phase to an aqueous phase. The first charge of the organic phase comprises monomer which is vertually insoluble in the aqeuous phase and an inert-nonpolymerizable hydrocarbon. The polymer formed from polymerizing the monomer is virtually insoluble in the hydrocarbon, the hydrocarbon is virtually insoluble in the aqueous phase and the monomer is miscible with the hydrocarbon. The monomer is polymerized to produce a low molecular weight polymer such that the low molecular weight polymer will phase separate from the organic phase and conentrates at the surface of the introduced organic phase forming a low molecular weight polymer phase. The second step involves introducing a second charge of the organic phase to the aqeuous phase, wherein the second charge of the organic phase comprises a crosslinking monomer. The crosslinking monomer is polymerized with the low molecular weight polymer to produce a hollow polymer latex particle.

    摘要: A method for polymerizing polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl chloride copolymers is provided in which a monomer slurry is formed by adding the monomers and water (hot or cold) in the reaction vessel, and the slurry is brought to reaction temperature. After a time delay of 0 to 15 minutes, an emulsifier package is added, and after a further time delay of 0 to 15 minutes, a catalyst emulsion is added. The emulsifier package comprises a primary emulsifier which is partially saponified polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of saponification between about 60 and about 90 mole percent and a solubility in methanol index at 55.degree. C. in a range of up to about 60 percent. A secondary emulsifier is included in the emulsifier package which is a preferably cellulosic type emulsifier. Preferably an additional emulsifier is added which is a hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetate having a degree of hydrolysis of at least 68 percent. The polymerization product has good bulk density and porosity parameters. Resins produced from this product have low fisheye characteristics.
