Abstract:
A system and method is described for automatically determining in a scanned document image the presence of unwanted extraneous information caused by an extraneous device and scanner background information. Once the presence of this information is determined, the system and method of the present invention can compute, for instance, skew and crop statistics. From this, the image can be automatically deskewed and cropped appropriately without the background and extraneous information. The system and method accomplishes this by first determining the presence of unwanted extraneous and background information and then appropriately processing the document image. The extraneous information is ignored during deskew and crop computations. Also, the scanner background and the extraneous information are prevented from being included in the final digital representation of the image.

Abstract:
An optical scanning technique employs an optical sensor array for collecting image pixel data from a flat medium during a scanning cycle. A motion apparatus provides relative motion between the sensor array and the medium such that a spiral locus is defined by the sensor array relative to the media during a scanning cycle. The spiral maximum diameter may be made equal to the diagonal dimension of a rectangular media, thus allowing pixel data to be collected very close to the edge of the media, and so reducing or eliminating the area of unscannable margins on both sides and the top and bottom of the media. The motion apparatus can include a turntable for rotating the flat medium about a center of coordinates, and a translatable carriage holding the sensor array. An ink jet printhead can be mounted on the motion apparatus, to provide a multi-function scanner/printer machine.
Abstract:
A digital camera configurable to obtain an image of a document, the camera comprising: first illumination means for illuminating the document in a first pass of the camera; second illumination means for illuminating the document in a second pass of the camera; image sensing means for capturing an image of the document from the passes; control means for controlling the sensing means, the control means being configured to control capture of a first portion of the image of the illuminated document during the first pass the first pass thereby resulting in a first image data, and the control means being configured to control capture of a second portion of the image of the illuminated document during the second pass the second pass thereby resulting in a second image data; means for storing the first and second image data; and means for processing the first and second image data so as to obtain a final image of the document.
Abstract:
A portable modular electronic system includes a plurality of portable modules in separate respective housings that are mutually attachable and detachable to form the system. Electrical connectors on the modules provide inter-module electrical connections when the modules are attached, and have symmetries that enable multiple different relative orientations between modules.
Abstract:
An information management apparatus 50 according to the present invention comprises: a database 30d for storing information relevant to a printer 40 therein; output request reception means 20a for receiving an output request transmitted from a portable terminal 14; inquiry signal transmission means 20a for transmitting an inquiry signal on the printer 40 being an output destination to the portable terminal 14; communication means for receiving image data transmitted from the portable terminal 14; recognition means 30b for recognizing the identification information of the printer 40 by analyzing the image data transmitted in response to the inquiry signal; retrieval means 30c for retrieving the information relevant to the printer 40 from the data base 30d on the basis of the acquired recognition information; and printing means 20c for outputting the information to the printer 40 on the basis of the information relevant to the printer 40 retrieved by the retrieval means 30c.
Abstract:
A magnetic tape includes plural diagonal tracks, each storing a preamble sequence close to user data such that a transducer for reading the track reads the preamble sequence immediately before reading the user data. The preamble sequence is such that when the track is read by the transducer the preamble sequence has a power sequence with a power spectrum substantially equivalent to the power spectrum of the user data. An AGC circuit responds to the transducer.
Abstract:
A filter comprises a first device, a second device, a dynamic filter, and a device monitor. The dynamic filter is coupled to the first device and the second device, and selectively directs commands to the first device and to the second device based on dynamic status of the first device. The device monitor is coupled to the dynamic filter and to the first device and capable of determining the first device dynamic status.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for capturing a variable length of sensory data in association with still image data. Manipulation of the camera is detected prior to image-capture, and sensory data are generated in response to detecting the manipulation. The sensory data are stored in temporary storage. When a control signal to capture a still image is active, still image data are generated and stored in non-volatile storage. A subset of the sensory data in temporary storage is selected and stored in non-volatile storage in association with the still image data.
