    摘要: A signal-processing circuit in which two-stage equalization is carried out by using first and second equalization circuits provided on the upstream and downstream sides from a phase locked loop circuit, respectively, is provided, wherein the first equalization circuit on the upstream side from the phase locked loop circuit is composed of a transversal filter, to minimize an equalization error caused by the first equalization circuit, thereby stabilizing the operation of the phase locked loop circuit. Another signal-processing circuit including an analog-to-digital converter and a digital phase locked loop circuit for receiving the output from the analog-to-digital converter, and a recording and playback apparatus using the same are also provided, wherein the output from the analog-to-digital converter is input as the digital signal in the digital phase locked loop circuit, to fetch a detection point voltage, thereby stabilizing the operation of the phase locked loop circuit without the need of provision of any analog circuit.

    摘要: A tape drive apparatus has at least one rotary head for reading/writing a track. The track has a number of fragments and each fragment has an identifier. The tape drive apparatus has a position indicator apparatus for providing a signal that indicates a rotational position of the head. The combination of the signal and the identifier unequivocally identifies a fragment within the fragments of a track. This has the advantage that non-unique identifiers can be used for the fragments of a track.

    摘要: A method of encoding a digital data stream for writing to a digital storage (DDS) format tape data storage medium, comprises writing a byte stream to a preamble region, immediately preceding a user data region, said byte stream having a characteristic of having a power spectrum (900) substantially similar to a power spectrum of said user data region. An automatic gain control circuit (504) responds to the preamble data stream in a substantially similar fashion to its response to the user data stream. The disclosure may overcome a problem in read channels detecting prior art DDS-1 to DDS-4 format preamble regions in that an automatic gain control circuit of the read channel responds differently to a cyclical preamble region in the known DDS formats, compared with its response to user data, giving rise to increased bit error rate in a sequence detector device of the read channel.
