Abstract: A method of melt blending a flame-retardant composition includes the steps: (a) heating a polymeric brominated flame retardant to a temperature of 5° C. or greater above the polymeric brominated flame retardants glass transition temperature as measured by Differential Scanning calorimetry, wherein the polymeric brominated flame retardant has a Temperature of 5% Mass Loss from 300° C. to 700° C. as measured according to Thermogravimetric Analysis; (b) mixing a polyolefin into the polymeric brominated flame retardant after step (a); and (c) mixing an inorganic filler into the polyolefin and polymeric brominated flame retardant after step (b) to form the flame-retardant composition.

Abstract: Rheology-modified, additive-containing ethylenic polymer compositions are prepared in a continuously operated extruder comprising first, second and third zones by a process comprising the steps of: mixing in the second zone of the extruder an ethylenic polymer and a high-temperature decomposing peroxide at a temperature such that the half-life of the peroxide is equal to or greater than one minute and for a sufficient period of time to modify the rheology of the ethylenic polymer to produce a rheology-modified, melted ethylenic polymer for transfer to the third zone of the extruder; and adding to the third zone one or more additives to the rheology-modified, melted ethylenic polymer to produce the rheology-modified, additive-containing ethylenic polymer.

Abstract: A copolymer of ethylene and hydrolysable silane includes from 0.1 wt % to 5.0 wt % hydrolysable silane groups and has a Mz(abs)/Mw(abs) of less than or equal to 9.5; a ratio of Mz(abs)/Mw(abs) to polydispersity of less than or equal to 1.5; a polydispersity of 6.6 or greater; a Density×Polydispersity of 6.0 or greater; or an Amorphous Content at Room Temperature×Polydispersity of 360 or greater. Methods for forming a moisture-crosslinkable polymer composition include forming a copolymer of ethylene and hydrolysable silane at a polymerization temperature of greater than or equal to 180° C. to less than or equal to 400° C. at a pressure from 5,000 psi to 50,000 psi; and adding a silanol condensation catalyst to the copolymer of ethylene and hydrolysable silane.
