A heat dissipation element for cooling an electronic device is disclosed. The heat dissipation element has a top surface and a bottom surface for mounting the electronic device to be cooled thereto. The top surface defines a heat dissipation area for dissipating heat from the electronic device and a plurality of heat transfer fins project upwardly from the top surface and are coextensive with the heat dissipation area. Each of the heat transfer fins defines a plurality of steps having a rise and a run and each of the steps extend across the heat dissipation area for maximizing an amount of heat dissipated from the electronic device. The heat dissipation element is particularly useful in either one of a cold plate assembly used with a liquid cooled unit (LCU) or a boiler plate assembly used with a thermosiphon cooling unit (TCU).

A heat exchanger assembly for cooling an electronic device comprises a flange, a dome, a plurality of condensing tubes, a shroud and a boiler plate. The dome is semi-cylindrical in shape with flat axial ends. A plurality of spaced condensing tubes is disposed in a plurality of fan rows with each fan row being in a fan plane to facilitate more-efficient heat transfer. The distal ends of each of the condensing tubes are elongated along the associated fan plane to define the fan rows in a fan shape. In other words, each fan row contains one elongated, fan-shaped condensing tube. The condensing tubes in adjacent fan planes terminate in an arch extending concentrically about the center axis at the flat axial ends of the semi-cylindrical dome. The pattern of the elongated condensing tubes resembles the erectile ribs of an igloo.

A thermosiphon assembly for dissipating heat generated by an electronic component using a working fluid is disclosed. The assembly includes an evaporator having a front face, a rear face, and a peripheral wall extending between the front face and the rear face and being arcuate. A heat block contacts the front face for transferring generated heat from the electronic component to the working fluid to vaporize the working fluid. A condenser is in fluid communication with the chamber and connected to the rear face for condensing the vaporized working fluid back to a liquid. The assembly further includes an acute angle between the front face and the peripheral wall such that the chamber extends upwardly at an angle from the front face to the rear face to ensure complete coverage of the heat block with the cooling fluid in any position between horizontal and vertical.

The system also includes a controller configured to determine an air stream temperature and an air stream flow rate necessary to establish the desired heat supply rate for the sensitive portion and provide a comfortable thermal environment by thermally isolating the occupant from the ambient vehicle cabin temperature. The system may include a sensor to determine the location of the sensitive portion. The nozzle may include a thermoelectric device to heat or cool the air stream.

A battery pack assembly comprising a plurality of battery packs each including a plurality of cells and at least one metering plate for metering the quantity of air flowing respectively through each of the air paths of the battery packs. An inlet metering plate is disposed upstream of the battery packs to meter the uneven flow of cooling air generated by the inlet manifold. The inlet metering plate utilizes a plurality of apertures, which can vary in size and shape, to produce equal streams of cooling air to cool all the battery packs to a substantially uniform temperature. An outlet metering plate can be disposed downstream of the battery packs to meter the flow of outgoing cooling air through the channels of the upper cylindrical sections to produce equal air flow around all of the cells in a stack to cool all of the cells to a substantially uniform temperature.
