摘要: An apparatus that includes a gain chip assembly, an external cavity, and a controller is disclosed. The gain chip assembly includes first and second gain chips that are coupled optically such that light travels serially between the first gain chip and the second gain chip, each gain chip is electrically biased. The electrical bias of the first gain chip is independent of the electrical bias of the second gain chip. The external cavity has a tunable wavelength selective filter that is changed in response to a control signal. Light in the external cavity passes through the gain chip assembly. The controller determines the tunable wavelength selective filter, and the electrical bias of each of the gain chips so as to cause the apparatus to lase at a wavelength specified by a control signal to the controller.

摘要: An apparatus that facilitates the manual sorting of objects is disclosed. The apparatus includes a display surface having a surface that can be selectively illuminated and that is adapted for receiving the objects. An identification reader reads identification information stored on the objects. A controller causes an area on the display surface corresponding to one of the objects to be illuminated based on the identification information and indicates a location to which the illuminated object is to be moved. In one aspect of the invention, the display surface includes an area adapted for positioning a receiver for the objects. The display surface provides an indication of a position in the receiver at which the one of the objects is to be placed.

摘要: A scanning apparatus having a stage adapted to hold a specimen to be imaged and to move the specimen in a first direction, and a light source that includes a tunable laser that generates a light beam having an illumination wavelength that varies as a function of an input signal is disclosed. The apparatus includes an imaging system having a scanning assembly that includes a focusing lens that focuses the light beam to a measurement point on the specimen, a first mirror that moves in a second direction relative to the stage such that the focusing lens maintains a fixed distance between the focusing lens and the stage, and a displacement sensor that measures a distance between the scanning assembly at a mapping point on the specimen, and a light detector that measures an intensity of light leaving the measurement point on the specimen.

摘要: A fluidic coupling device includes a housing, and a piston, spring, and cap insertable in the housing. The spring includes a stack of spring washers and is compressible between the cap and the the piston. The cap is threadedly engageable with the housing and movable into contact with the spring. The device may be coupled to a component in a sealed manner by inserting a ferrule between the piston and the component, inserting a conduit through the housing and into the component, and threadedly engaging the housing with the component, thereby compressing the spring and translating the piston against the ferrule. The device may enable coupling to be done manually, with minimal variation in compressive loading. The piston and spring may desensitize the device to thermal cycling effects, reducing the need for retightening.

摘要: Provided herein is a method of sample analysis. In some embodiments, the method comprises hybridizing fragmented genomic DNA from a test genome with a population of first oligonucleotides of the formula V1-B-V2 in the presence of one or more second oligonucleotides; contacting the product with ligase to join the ends of the fragmented genomic DNA that are hybridized to V1 and V2 to the one or more second oligonucleotides; and subjecting the product to polymerase chain reaction conditions using amplification primers that hybridize to sites that are provided by the one or more second oligonucleotides, wherein production of a product indicates that the test genome contains a chromosomal rearrangement relative to the reference genome.

摘要: An ion guide generates a radio frequency (RF) field to radially confine ions to an ion beam along a guide axis as the ions are transmitted through the ion guide. The effective potential of the RF field includes an alternating series of barriers and wells. Ions may be trapped in individual wells in mass-dependent order, with larger masses trapped closer to a guide exit than smaller masses. The RF field may be scanned so as to release the ions from the ion guide in mass-dependent order, with larger masses released before smaller masses. The operating conditions may be set such that ions over the entire mass range arrive at a desired downstream focal point simultaneously, for example at an accelerator of a time-of-flight analyzer.
