Abstract: Described is a method for loading a sample-vial carrier into a sample manager of a liquid chromatography system. The method includes placing a sample-vial carrier onto a transfer drawer having first and second drawer magnets. The transfer drawer is transported into a sample tray of a sample manager using a drawer drive system of a transfer drawer receiving apparatus. The drawer drive system has a drive magnet that is engaged with the first drawer magnet during transport. The transport of the transfer drawer is terminated when the second drawer magnet is engaged with a sample tray magnet on the sample tray. The sample tray is rotated about an axis substantially perpendicular to a direction of transport of the transfer drawer to provide a shear force to disengage the first drawer magnet from the drive magnet.

Abstract: Described herein are a selectable flow restriction device and a fluidic network for chromatographic sample dilution during injection. A selectable flow restriction device is used in combination with a splitter to define an adjustable splitter for separating a high-pressure solvent flow into two separate solvent flows having the same solvent composition. The first solvent flow passes to a sample manager where a sample is injected as a discrete fluidic plug at an injection valve into a flow comprising at least one solvent. The second solvent flow is merged downstream from the location of injection with the first solvent carrying the sample fluidic plug. The second solvent flow dilutes the sample plug during the mixture of the two solvent flows.

Abstract: Embodiments of multi-column gas chromatography for analysis of a formation sample are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a gas chromatography instrument and a controller. The gas chromatography instrument comprises a sample injector; a primary column to separate out a hydrocarbon subset; a secondary column valve coupled to the primary column; a primary detector configured to analyze the hydrocarbons of the subset; a heart cutting unit coupled to the secondary column valve and configured to cut, from the subset, at least one isomer having a weight greater than a threshold; a secondary column coupled to an output of the heart cutting unit configured to separate out the at least one isomer; and a secondary detector configured to analyze the at least one isomer. The controller controls the secondary column valve to output the hydrocarbons to the heart cutting unit in response to at least one trigger event.
