摘要: A method for monitoring inventory on a shelf and apparatus for accomplishing the same. The invention describes a method for determining the number of packages on a shelf or hanger. The number of packages on a shelf or hanger are determined by detecting the presence of a package on the shelf and adding all detections together to determine the number of product on a shelf. In another embodiment, the product is identified by an identifying device such as an SKU reader. Thus, the quantity and type of product located on a shelf or hanger is known. Such information allows a store to know the type and quantity of packages needed to restock a specific shelf.

摘要: Fold mirrors permit the imagers to be closer to each other and permit an optical code reader, such as a tunnel scanner, to confine them to a smaller housing volume or capacity. A plurality of sets of fold mirrors can also be employed to convey at least a portion of at least two different perspectives or two different depths of field of a composite view volume to different regions of an image field of a common imager. The sets of fold mirrors may also include split mirrors that have mirror components that reflect images from different view volumes to different imagers or different regions of an image field of a single imager.

摘要: An automated system and method for communicating product information to consumers through a central computer using a distributed computer network. The central computer is connected to a plurality of public health and product recall information sources through a public network such as the Internet. Consumers purchasing or otherwise linked with products submit product information to the central computer. The central computer establishes a link between the user and associated product information and stores the data in a database. User medical information is also submitted to and retained by the central computer. Upon receipt of product update information, which may include recall notification or other product warnings from the public health or product recall information sources, the central computer accesses the database and identifies user-product links impacted by the product update information and automatically initiates electronic or other communications to affected users. Similarly, users purchasing products can access the central computer and search for stored product information which may impact the purchasing decision. Medical treatments may also be verified against information stored in the central computer pertaining to user health conditions, other treatments currently being undertaken, etc. to avoid dangerous interactions. Through the central computer and distributed computer network, consumers may be readily and inexpensively notified of highly pertinent product information, as well as medical data, as it becomes available and before any potentially adverse effects are incurred.

摘要: An 2-D symbol orientation guide with parallel and spaced right angle guidelines with chevron-like spaces provided therebetween is selectively displayed in plural selected dispositions on a monitor screen as an overlay for the display on the same monitor screen of a 2-D Data Matrix symbol. Manual rotation of the symbol is viewed on the monitor screen as the symbols solid line border is moved into alignment with a guide line at which time the symbol is imaged and its quality graded. Display of the orientation guide in at least five selected rotational dispositions, alignment of the symbol solid line border therewith and imaging and grading of the symbol quality in each such position provides multiple grade scores for averaging into an overall grade score.

摘要: Various improved imager-based optical code readers and associated methods are disclosed herein. According to one embodiment, an imager-based method reads an optical code (which may be, for example, a linear optical code such as a bar code) on an object in a viewing volume. The method comprises dividing an image plane into a plurality of strip-shaped sections, viewing the object in the viewing volume from a plurality of perspectives, forming a plurality of strip-shaped images corresponding to the plurality of perspectives, respectively, thereby creating a composite image containing data from a plurality of perspectives, and processing at least a portion of the composite image so as to ascertain the information encoded in the optical code on the object in the viewing volume. Certain embodiments can mimic the performance of a laser-based scanner without a laser or moving parts but instead utilizing an electronic imaging device such as an imager.

摘要: An identification system includes a fractal antenna fashioned as a 2-dimensional data matrix which defines a Unique Item Identifier which operates as a conventional active antenna element for a RFID identification system while the unique face of the antenna is utilized as a physical reference to distinguish the component. By utilizing the face of an antenna as a Unique Item Identifier, an RFID system component antenna integrates two identification systems.

摘要: A hand-supportable linear-type planar laser illumination and imaging (PLIIM) based device comprising a linear image formation and detection (IFD) module having a linear array of image detection elements and also image formation optics having a field of view (FOV) focusing a linear image of an object onto the linear array of image detection elements. A pair of planar laser illumination arrays (PLIAs) is arranged on opposite sides of the linear image formation and detection module, and produces a plurality of spatially-incoherent planar laser illumination beam (PLIB) components that are optically combined with respect to other PLIB components so as to produce a composite planar laser illumination beam (PLIB) that is arranged in a coplanar relationship with at least a portion of the FOV. Each PLIA includes a plurality of planar laser illumination modules (PLIMs). Each PLIM includes a laser diode and beam focusing and diverging optics for producing one spatially-incoherent PLIB component. The composite PLIB produces a number of substantially different individual speckle noise patterns at the linear array of image detection elements during the photo-integration time period thereof. The speckle noise power observed at the linear array of image detection elements is reduced through temporal averaging of the individual speckle noise patterns during the photo-integration time period. By virtue of the present invention, it is now possible to use visible laser diodes (VLDs) to produce speckle-reduced images of objects suitable for OCR processing, while enjoying improved working distances offered by planar laser illumination techniques.

摘要: Method and system for localizing an object in a stack of objects. A passive radio frequency identification (RFID) tag is attached to each object. Each RFID tag includes a unique identifier of the object to which the RFID tag is attached. A RFID reader has multiple antennas. Each antenna is positioned to transmit a signal that can be detected by different RFID tags attached to the objects within a reading range of the transmitted signal from each antenna. The antennas are sequentially selected and powered to transmit to the stack a read signal including object's identifier for the object to be localized. If a response to the read signal is received by a selected and powered antenna from a RFID tag that matched the object's identifier with its unique identifier, then a light emitting diode (LED) is lighted to identify a location of the object being localized.
