摘要: An improved snubber is electrically switched to close a current path to a capacitor (C) in a series connected RC circuit at the onset of an abrupt voltage change otherwise producing ringing in a resonant circuit to which the snubber circuit is connected. The current path to the capacitor (C) is then interrupted before the capacitor (C) discharges and thereafter at each such voltage change in the resonant circuit the capacitor (C) is no longer charged from its totally discharged state but nevertheless damps the ringing by virtue of current flow to the nearly completely charged capacitor (C). By preventing complete charging and discharging of the capacitor (C) in the RC circuit every cycle, power dissipation in the resistance of the snubber circuit is greatly reduced.

摘要: A dc-dc converter is disclosed comprising an active clamp topology, including an active clamp resonant transition system to provide substantially zero or reduced voltage for turn-on of the primary switch. The resonant transition system includes an inductor in series with the primary winding of the power transformer and a clamp diode that operate cooperatively to turn on the primary switch with reduced voltage. A second diode is included in series with a balancing resistor to discharge a snubber capacitor with improved efficiency. The addition of these circuit components provides low switching losses and low component stresses in the overall design.

摘要: A damper circuit for switching power supplies to improve the stability thereof with high efficiency. A resistor, having a value which critically damps the flyback transformer in the supply, is selectively coupled to the transformer by a switch when the switching transistor is disabled. The decoupling of the resistor when the switching transistor is on reduces power dissipation, compared to passive damping techniques, and allows integration of the damper onto the same IC as the control circuits of the supply. The damper increases the stability of the supply by absorbing excess energy not transferred to the load. The excess energy would instead be dissipated in the transistor and upsetting the control circuits of the supply, leading to instability of thereof. In addition, a clamp circuit is provided which keeps the switch from turning on due to high slew rate transients across the transformer from the turn-on of the switching transistor.

摘要: Pre-conditioners (or line-conditioners) are used to convert electrical power having first characteristics into electrical power having second characteristics. For example, a pre-conditioner may connect electrical equipment forming a load, which requiring only a conventional mains supply level to a utility three-phase supply. This means that the power components of the load may be de-rated, making the load electrical equipment cheaper. Such circuits may be further improved. Components in the down-converter itself still need to be rated to interface with the higher voltage. An approach is proposed in which two interleaved down-converters (36, 38) can be used to supply voltages. An energy recovery element (50) connects snubbers of the interleaved down-converters, thus enabling some de-rating of the pre-conditioner circuitry.

摘要: A semiconductor switching string including a series-connected switching assemblies. Each assembly has a main switching element including first and second connection terminals which current flows between when the main switching element is on. The main element has an auxiliary element between the connection terminals. The string includes a local control unit connected with each auxiliary element which are programmed to switch an auxiliary element to create an alternative current path between the connection terminals that diverts current through to reduce the voltage across the corresponding main switching element. The local unit is programmed to control switching an auxiliary element to a fully-on mode in which the auxiliary element is at maximum rated base current, a pulsed mode which turns the auxiliary element on and off and/or an active mode operating the auxiliary element with a continuously variable base current. The string includes a higher level control unit programmed to implement the modes.
