    摘要: In the separation of traces of halogens and sulfur from a halogen- and/or sulfur-containing gas stream wherein the gas stream is contacted with a wash liquid to absorb the halogens and sulfur, the improvement which comprises including in the wash liquid heavy metal ions capable of forming difficultly soluble halides and sulfides. Preferably the heavy metal ions are silver or copper, and the insoluble heavy metal sulfide and/or halide is removed from the wash liquid which is recirculated. Almost quantitative removal is achieved in as little as 1 second of gas-wash liquid contact.

    摘要: In the process for reducing the total sulfur content of a high CO.sub.2 -content feed gas stream, the feed gas is first passed to an absorption column. The unabsorbed, high CO.sub.2 -content gas is then routed to a reduction step where it is combined with Claus off-gases and the sulfur compounds are reduced to H.sub.2 S. The treated gas is then passed to a second absorption column and the unabsorbed gas is vented to the atmosphere. The fat solvent from both absorption columns is stripped in a common stripper and the stripped gas is passed to a Claus unit for conversion to elemental sulfur.

    摘要: Acidic components are removed from gaseous mixtures by contacting the gaseous mixture with an aqueous solution comprising (1) a basic salt and (2) an activator for said basic salt comprising at least one sterically hindered amine and an aminoacid which is a cosolvent for the sterically hindered amines. The aminoacid serves to prevent phase separation of the aqueous solution at high temperatures and low fractional conversions during the contacting.

    摘要: A process for removing sulfurous by-product materials from high temperature reaction products of chemical processes consisting essentially in:(1) passing a simple or complex metal oxide in the form of a coarsely divided powder entrained in a conveying gas through a high energy transfer zone whereby said powder is heated to a degree sufficient to vaporize said powder and said powder is substantially vaporized to form a hot effluent stream of metal oxide vapor,(2) injecting said hot effluent stream of metal oxide vapor into a gaseous reaction product, including sulfurous by-product materials, from an elevated temperature chemical process,(3) allowing said metal oxide vapor to condense to solid particles with reaction with said sulfurous by-product materials to fix the sulfur content thereof in the form of solid particles, and(4) separating said solid particles containing substantially all of the sulfur content of said sulfurous by-product materials from said gaseous reaction product.

    摘要: Hot reducing gas is desulfurized by contacting the gas with a desulfurizing agent comprising a bed of porous manganese oxide pellets, then regenerating the spent desulfurizing agent by contacting the bed with a gaseous oxidizing atmosphere and then reusing the regenerated desulfurizing agent under the above mentioned conditions for desulfurizing hot reducing gas. The temperature of the bed of pellets is between about 500.degree. C. and about 1300.degree. C. during both the desulfurization and the regeneration steps.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a method of processing residual gases containing sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur oxides and supplied from Claus plants or other surfur-producing installations, wherein the Claus plant is operated along or in connection with an ammonia decomposition plant in which ammonia-containing heated gases are directed through a decomposition zone which is free or filled with heat-resistant filler bodies or with a catalyst material, and the ammonia is decomposed into nitrogen and hydrogen and, thereupon, the gases are cooled and washed. The residual gases containing sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur oxides and ammonia-containing heated gases are fed to an ammonia decomposition chamber where the ammonia is decomposed into nitrogen and hydrogen and the residual gases react to produce a product gas enriched in hydrogen sulfide, the hydrogen for the reaction being supplied by the decomposition of ammonia. The product gas is further treated and the hydrogen-containing gas suitable for undergrate firing is removed therefrom.

    摘要: Acidic gases are substantially removed from a normally gaseous mixture by a process comprising contacting the normally gaseous mixture with an amine-solvent liquid absorbent comprising (i) an amine mixture comprised of at least about 50 mol % of a sterically hindered amine and at least about 10 mol % of a tertiary amino alcohol, wherein said sterically hindered amine contains at least one secondary amino group which is part of a ring and is attached to either a secondary or tertiary carbon atom or a primary amino group attached to a tertiary carbon atom, and (ii) a solvent for said amine mixture which is also a physical absorbent for said acidic gases. The liquid absorbent may also include up to about 35 weight percent water. The coaction of the sterically hindered amine and the tertiary amino alcohol in conjunction with the solvent provides an increase in the amount of CO.sub.2 containing acidic gases absorbed compared to the use of the same sterically hindered amines alone and lowers the heat of reaction.
