Abstract: An electronic device may have a display. A display cover layer and a transparent inner display member may overlap a display pixel layer. The display pixel layer may have an array of display pixels for displaying images for a user. A touch sensor layer may be interposed between the display pixel layer and the transparent display member. A ferromagnetic shielding layer may be mounted below the display pixel layer. A flexible printed circuit containing coils of metal signal lines that form a near-field communications loop antenna may be interposed between the ferromagnetic shielding layer and the display pixel layer. A non-near-field antenna such as an inverted-F antenna may have a resonating element mounted on an inner surface of the display cover layer. The resonating element may be interposed between the transparent display member and the display cover layer.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with wireless circuitry. The wireless circuitry may include one or more antennas and first and second radio-frequency modules. The device may include a conductive housing having dielectric antenna windows. The first module may generate first millimeter wave signals in a first communications band. The antenna may transmit the first signals to external equipment through the dielectric window at a transmit power level. The antenna may receive control signals in the second communications band from the external equipment through the dielectric window. The first and second communications bands may include frequencies greater than 10 GHz. The second module may pass the received control signals to the first module to adjust the transmit power level of the first signals transmitted by the antenna. A duplexer may be interposed between the modules and the antenna for isolating the first and second communications bands.

Abstract: A removable case may receive an electronic device. A male connector in the case may mate with a female connector in the device. A battery in the case may supply power to the device through the male connector. The electronic device may have an antenna formed from peripheral conductive housing structures and an antenna ground. The antenna may include a slot antenna resonating element. The case may have supplemental antenna structures such as a metal patch that overlaps an end of the slot antenna resonating element to retune the slot antenna resonating element to a desired operating frequency after being detuned by dielectric loading from the case. The supplemental antenna structures may overlap antennas of other types and may include tunable circuitry that is adjusted based on information received from the electronic device.

Abstract: Devices at either end of a wireless communication link are each configured to support multiple different link settings. During communication, a device that is receiving data can monitor the signal quality and initiate a dynamic transition to a new link setting if performance of the current link setting falls below a lower threshold or exceeds an upper threshold. Abstract: An electronic device may have wireless circuitry with antennas. An antenna resonating element arm for an antenna may be formed from conductive housing structures running along the edges of a device. The antenna may have a pair of switchable return paths that bridge a slot between the antenna resonating element and an antenna ground. An adjustable component and a feed may be coupled in parallel across the slot. The adjustable component may switch a capacitor into use or out of use and the return paths may be selectively opened and closed to compensate for antenna loading due to the presence of external objects near the electronic device.

Abstract: This invention is directed to an electronic device with an embedded authentication system for restricting access to device resources. The authentication system may include one or more sensors operative to detect biometric information of a user. The sensors may be positioned in the device such that the sensors may detect appropriate biometric information as the user operates the device, without requiring the user to perform a step for providing the biometric information (e.g., embedding a fingerprint sensor in an input mechanism instead of providing a fingerprint sensor in a separate part of the device housing). In some embodiments, the authentication system may be operative to detect a visual or temporal pattern of inputs to authenticate a user. In response to authenticating, a user may access restricted files, applications (e.g., applications purchased by the user), or settings (e.g., application settings such as contacts or saved game profile).
