摘要:
A novel stock roll support assembly and loading method for a cushioning conversion machine that produces dunnage product from sheet stock material supplied as a roll provides for easier loading of the stock roll onto a roll support at the upstream end of the cushioning conversion machine in certain situations, such as where the machine is located against a wall or over (or under) a conveyor, etc. The stock roll support assembly is connected to a main frame of the machine for rotatably supporting a roll of sheet stock material. The stock roll support assembly includes a stock roll support mounted to the main frame for swinging movement between an operating position and a loading position. In the operating position, the stock roll support is operative to support the stock roll adjacent the main frame, and in the loading position, the stock roll support is swung away from the main frame to facilitate loading of a stock roll thereon.

A disposable kitty litter box includes a container and fresh kitty litter enclosed within the container. The container is convertible between a closed condition in which it encloses the kitty litter, and an open condition in which it forms an open receptacle for use of the kitty litter. The fresh kitty litter is a pourable aggregation of accordion-folded paper strips, thereby making the box suitable for automated manufacture.

In combination, a cushioning conversion machine and a dispensing table, the cushioning conversion machine connected underneath the dispensing table by a guide system. The guide system includes at least one multiposition guide track connected to the dispensing table in cooperative relation with a follower connected to the cushioning conversion machine, whereby the cushioning conversion machine can be withdrawn out either the front, rear, or either side of the dispensing table.

A cushioning conversion machine and method for converting sheet-like stock material, such as paper in multi-ply form, into cut sections of relatively low density pad-like cushioning product. The machine includes conversion assemblies which convert the stock material into a strip of dunnage, a stock supply assembly which supplies the stock material to the conversion assemblies, a cutting assembly which cuts the strip into cut sections of a desired length, and a post-cutting constraining assembly which circumferentially constrains the cut section.

A stock material for use with a cushioning conversion machine is provided. The stock material includes a plurality of superimposed plies of a sheet-like material which are fan-folded into a rectangonal stack. The superimposed plies include a series of alternating folds which each create superimposed creases through the plies. The alternating folds together form a sequence of rectangular pages which are piled accordion-style one on top of the other to form the rectangonal stack.

A cushioning conversion machine for converting sheet-like stock material, such as a paper in multi-ply form, into cut sections of cushioning product is provided. The machine includes a stock supply assembly, a forming assembly, a pulling/connecting assembly and a cutting assembly, all of which are mounted on a machine frame. The machine frame includes a base plate having an upstream end and a downstream end, a first end plate extending generally perpendicular from the upstream end of the base plate and a second end plate extending generally perpendicular from the downstream end of the base plate. The frame base plate and the two frame end plates together form a "C" shaped structure. The stock supply assembly is mounted on the first frame end plate, the forming assembly is mounted on an intermediate portion of the frame base plate, the pulling/connecting assembly is mounted on an upstream side of the second end plate, and the cutting assembly is mounted on the downstream side of the second end plate. The machine may also include a post-cutting constraining assembly for circumferentially constraining the cut sections of the cushioning dunnage product and/or a pivot cover on one of the components of the forming assembly to aid in the manual threading of the machine.

A cushioning conversion machine for converting a sheet-like stock material, which may be viewed as having two edge sections and a central section, into a cushioning product is provided. The machine includes a conversion assembly for converting the sheet-like stock material into a cushioning product and a supply assembly which supplies the sheet-like stock material to the conversion assembly. The stock material is supplied to the conversion assembly in such a manner that its edge sections must travel in a longer path than the central section thereby creating edge-tension in the edge sections of the stock material. While a certain minimum conversion-tension is necessary in the edge sections of the stock material to properly convert the stock material into a cushioning product, a certain continuous tearing-tension, greater than the minimum conversion-tension, will cause a continuous tear in the stock material. To insure that the edge-tension is not so great as to cause continuous tearing but is great enough to allow proper conversion, the supply assembly includes an edge-tension controlling device which controls the edge-tension so that it is greater than or equal to the minimum conversion-tension and less than the continuous tearing-tension.

Processes for the production of antistatic or static dissipative papers. The papers produced may be expeditiously used in dunnage converter machines operable to produce an antistatic (static dissipative) resilient pad-like cushioning dunnage product, for packaging and the like. In one of the processes, liquid antistatic material is applied to a still wet porous paper web produced on a Fourdrinier-type paper making machine, and in predetermined amount for impregnation therein, prior to the completion of the drying of the paper. In another process, a web of dry paper is impregnated with liquid antistatic material, and then the treated web is dried.

A mechanism and method for producing relatively low density pad-like cushioning dunnage product from sheet-like stock material. The mechanism takes the sheet-like stock material from a multi-ply roll thereof and changes it into a pad-like cushioning dunnage product having lateral pillow-like portions connected together along the generally central portion of the product.A separating mechanism for separating the sheets of stock material as they move from the stock roll toward the forming frame and the converging member is provided, together with a transversely extending roller disposed ahead of the separating mechanism whereby the point of commencement of entry of the multi-ply sheet-like stock material toward the separating mechanism remains constant irrespective of the diameter of the stock roll.An alternate, multi-ply stock roll comprising a thicker gauge but lesser width web with a plurality of wider webs or sheets is disclosed. The idea is to generally improve the construction of the dunnage producing mechanism, and to improve its operation as well as to provide a pad-like dunnage product possessing substantial resiliency per unit volume, and which is securely attached along the abutting rolled edges of the pillow-like portions of the produced cushioning product, so that the pad-like material tends to more positively remain in pad-like form during its use as a packing.

A method and apparatus for the production of air cell cushioning material, for protective cushioning purposes in packaging or other purposes, with the air cell product being formed from flexible, single stratum sheet of low density, low melting point thermoplastic, such as low density polyethylene film. The method and apparatus include an arrangement for cooling an embossed film on a rotatable forming drum to a predetermined temperature range prior to applying a sealing laminating film to the cooled embossed film, and are such that the apparatus can be halted in its operation without injurious effects to any substantial amount of the air cell product being produced, and can be restarted to again commence production of the air cell product. The apparatus and method utilize clear thermoplastic single stratum film, and result in an effective air cell cushioning product which possesses extremely good clarity even after the heating and pressure steps utilized in the production of the product.
