摘要: An antimicrobial peptide and its analogs that are insensitive to physiological salt and divalent cation concentrations is provided, as are methods for their use to treat and prevent bacterial infections. The peptides are especially useful to treat infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to traditional antibiotic therapy.

摘要: According to a preferred aspect of the instant invention, there is provided a system and method of robust control profile generation which suppresses one or some resonant modes in a flexible dynamic system. This robust control profile is a smooth function which can be used as a velocity profile, or as a shape filter to an arbitrary control command. The robustness can be arbitrarily improved. The robustness brings about a smoother profile. The technique can be applied to both open-loop and closed-loop systems. As a consequence of the use of the instant invention, the movement of a flexible arm that is performed according to this sort of function will be one that has minimal or reduced residual vibration after it has reached its destination.

摘要: A method for in-season macro and micronutrient application based on predicted yield potential, coefficient of variation, and a nutrient response index. The inventive method includes the steps of: determining a nutrient response index for a field; determining the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) of an area to fertilize; determining the coefficient of variation of NDVI over a plot; determining a predicted crop yield for the area without additional nutrient; determining an attainable crop yield for the area with additional nutrient; determining the nutrient requirement for the area as the difference between the nutrient removal at the attainable yield minus the nutrient removal at the predicted yield, adjusted by the efficiency of nutrient utilization in the particular crop as indicated by the coefficient of variation.

摘要: The instant invention provides a method and apparatus for use in laser induced dynamic light scattering which attenuates the multiple scattering component in favor of the single scattering component. The preferred apparatus utilizes two light detectors that are spatially and/or angularly separated and which simultaneously record the speckle pattern from a single sample. The recorded patterns from the two detectors are then cross correlated in time to produce one point on a composite single/multiple scattering function curve. By collecting and analyzing cross correlation measurements that have been taken at a plurality of different spatial/angular positions, the signal representative of single scattering may be differentiated from the signal representative of multiple scattering, and a near optimum detector separation angle for use in taking future measurements may be determined.

摘要: A method for increasing the tenderness of livestock meat tissues. The method involves increasing the calcium concentration in livestock muscle tissue prior to harvest of the animal to a degree sufficient to activate or enhance postmortem tenderization mechanisms. This is accomplished, most preferably, through the administration of Vitamin D, its analogs or derivatives, or combinations thereof, to livestock at concentrations above those required nutritionally in order to decrease shear force (increase tenderness) of meat tissues.

摘要: A multi-chamber single-use bioreactor for cell culture expansion has bag assembly and a rigid support structure defining a bag receiving space. The bag assembly disposed in the bag receiving space of the rigid support structure and supported by the rigid support structure. The bag assembly has at least a first flexible bag and a second flexible bag. The first bag defines a first reaction chamber, and the second bag defines a second reaction chamber. The first reaction chamber has a first volume, a first inlet, and a first outlet, and the second reaction chamber has a second volume different from the first volume, a second inlet, and a second outlet. The second inlet of the second bag is fluidically connected to the first outlet of the first bag so liquid in first reaction chamber can be transferred to the second reaction chamber.
