    摘要： A focus card evokes a neurological response in a user to dampen the user's response to a negative stimulus. A focus card has a first face comprising visual graphics such as lenticular graphics, and a second face comprising indicia pertaining to the visual graphics. Indicia are configured for a target population, and can include novel questions, tasks or directions. A parent or other untrained individual can direct a patient as indicated by the indicia. A single focus card can have indicia for several target populations. A focus card can be used in combination with an analgesia means to further reduce a patient's pain response. By focusing the patient's attention with a focus card, behavior of the patient's anterior cingulate gyrus can be modified to reduce the patient's response to a pain-causing stimulus. It can also be used to reduce agitation, anxiety or distress outside of a medical environment.

    摘要： An apparatus and method that is effective for the treatment of skin itch and skin rash is disclosed. The apparatus is contained within a body which can be easily manipulated with one hand, and which is powered by a self-contained battery. Also contained within the body is a heating means, controlled by a thermostat, a temperature selector if the heating means if intended to provide multiple temperatures, and means to warn the user when the desired temperature is reached. In addition the apparatus includes means to apply the heat in a cyclical manner, in which the heat is repeatedly applied and removed, with a cycle time and pulse width in which is controlled by user by means of a control located on the body heater and some other elements that can ensure only one substantially unique temperature is used. The method, which is related to the apparatus as its governing principle, includes the application of heat at a precise, controlled temperature, for a specific period of time, t the skin at the location of the itch or rash. The temperature used depends upon the nature of skin discomfort, but is generally inside the range between 46-62° C. The temperature variation is generally controlled within +/−0.5° C. although it can be wider or narrower depends upon the nature of the itch treatment. In addition, the method includes a pulsating application of heat to the skin area, in which the heat is alternately applied and removed at a rate of approximately 1 second, with a total application time of between 10 and 30 seconds.

    摘要： A thermal delivery system includes a base unit having a thermal regulation source and a console configured to deliver cooling fluid to a body-cooling device to induce hypothermia and aid in resuscitation of a patient. When a user docks the console with the base station, the console thermally contacts the thermal regulation source. The thermal regulation source alters the temperature of fluid held by the console for an indefinite period of time. In the case where a patient, at a location remote from the thermal delivery system, requires induction of hypothermia, a user detaches the console from the base station and transports the console to the patient's location. The configuration of the thermal delivery system allows the base station to thermally adjust the temperature of the fluid held by the console for an extended period of time, thereby minimizing a delay in transporting a console having the thermally adjusted fluid to the patient.
