Abstract:
A system for granting permission of a user's personal information to a third party includes a terminal unit for entering a personal information of a user and a permission information indicating at least one permissible use of the personal information of the user by a third party, for storing the personal information and the permission information entered, for receiving from the third party an item in accordance with the permission information stored therein from the third party, and an information management unit electrically connected to the terminal unit for managing the personal information and the permission information stored in the terminal unit, for evaluating the personal information stored therein in accordance with the permission information stored therein if an access to the personal information is requested from the third party, and for providing to the third party the requested personal information if the access to the requested personal information is permissible in accordance with a result of the evaluation.
Abstract:
A messaging client and associated method for client-based multicast message transmission is provided. In one embodiment, the messaging client includes a message origination process with an input device, message buffer, recipient list, new message area, and multicast message transmission process. In one embodiment, the method includes: a) receiving a message content to be transmitted in a message, b) receiving delivery information for first and second recipients to whom the message is to be transmitted, c) receiving an instruction to begin the message transmission, d) transmitting the message from the client to the first recipient, and e) transmitting the message from the client to the second recipient. The messaging client and associated method relate to short message service (SMS), enhanced message service (EMS), multimedia message service (MMS), and other types of similar message services.
Abstract:
At least first and second potential viewers deliver their personal demographic informations to a processing system (Internet processing server). Viewing information concerning their television or computer multimedia viewing habits are entered automatically from their respective viewing stations into the processing system. From this demographic and viewing information, the processing system determines pursuant to pre-determined criteria incorporated into processing system software the desired sponsored video message (advertisement), which is played when that viewer views multimedia at his/her viewing station. In other words, the video advertisements shown are selected for the individual viewer, and this determination is a dynamic determination based at least in part on the most recent viewing behavior of that viewer. The message can be pre-cached at the viewing station and shown when the multimedia content is not “available” for viewing at the station, and particularly when an initial portion of the multimedia content is being downloaded for later presentation at the station. Additionally, from all of the information delivered to the processing system, valuable viewer/viewing information can be processed and made available to a recipient.
Abstract:
A communication system (10) uses commercial, mass market paging transmission facilities (16) to deliver messages (18′) to a population of reception devices (22). Each reception device (22) includes a display screen (48) at which lines (72) of national and local news and advertising, a banner advertising box (74) and a clock (76) are displayed. Line buttons (54′) are aligned with the displayed lines (72). The reception device (22) is configured so that a user may press a line button (54′) aligned with a particular line (72) scrolling on the display screen (48) to view additional details related to the subject matter of the particular line (72). Selected lines (72) include alert activating codes (42) which signal the reception device (22), when enabled, to activate an alert which attracts the user's attention to those selected lines (72).
Abstract:
A method of broadcasting data files to selected mobile units, comprising steps of (a) receiving, through a bi-directional wireless network, a data request from a mobile unit, the data request including identification information for the mobile unit, (b) associating the data request with a digital data file; and (c) broadcasting the digital data file together with identification data for the mobile unit over a download channel on a broadcast network that has an overlapping coverage area with the bi-directional wireless network.
Abstract:
A method and system that uses electronic message delivery combined with data collection techniques and data-mining methods to determine and enhance the effectiveness of a given communication and to optimize the target audience of the given communication. One embodiment of the system utilized in practicing the method also includes a means for collecting real-time, synchronized survey audience response data with respect to the videos presented and a data-mining tool for analyzing the data collected and the streaming videos presented. One embodiment of the system includes an audience manager (12), and invitation manager (14), and order manager (16), and a message manager (18). In one embodiment, the message manager (18) includes a testing process (20), a scoring process (22), a ranking process (24), and a response analysis process (26).
Abstract:
Certain aspects of the invention may be found in a method and system for setting up devices for communication on a communication network and may include a headend that may detect when a first device is initially coupled to the communication network and assign an address to the first device. The headend may transfer the assigned address to the first device and in response to receiving the transferred assigned address and/or an identifier of the first device from the first device, the headend may communicate the transferred received assigned address and/or the identifier of the first device to at least one communication server coupled to the communication network. The assigned address of the first device may be a static address, a dynamic address and/or an embedded device address such as a MAC address. The identifier of the first device may be a digital certificate and/or a serial number.
Abstract:
A method of using a modified DVB/MPEG2 data frame is disclosed. The method uses a data frame containing both downstream data and Upstream Request (nullUSRnull) channel information in order to efficiently use the downstream frames. The USR channel is used primarily to poll the client modems to identify which modem need to use the upstream channel to transmit an upstream frame. A preferred location for embedding the USR message is within the FEC field, if the FEC field is not being used. Other inventive aspects of this and related concept are developed in the disclosed material. This Abstract is meant to be an aid to searches and not as a limitation on the scope of the claims.

Abstract:
An electronic message based advance notification system for delivery of content relating to user selected areas of interest. A user profile database is created, each profile having a user identifier, a data identifying items or subjects of interest, and a user notice descriptor identifying the address and media for messaging to the user. A broadcast request, via e-mail or web form, having a content body data and a notice descriptor data is received. A notice is transmitted to users having a profile matching the notice descriptor, the notice identifying a subsequent broadcast by subject, source address, and time for broadcast. The subsequent broadcast is then made available at the indicated time and source address.
