    Abstract: Detect, at a cable/fiber broadband network termination unit of a cable/fiber broadband multi-service operator, an interruption in service to a cable/fiber broadband network customer unit-small cell pair. Responsive to detecting the interruption, the termination unit advises a charging server of the operator of the interruption in service, a corresponding identifier of the customer unit – small cell pair, and a corresponding account identifier. Responsive to termination unit advising the charging server, the charging server advises a backend server of an associated cellular network of a customer identifier corresponding to the account identifier. Responsive to the charging server advising the backend server, the backend server advises a policy control function of the associated cellular network to modify network parameters of the associated cellular network to compensate for the interruption in service.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for managing uplink resource grants in wireless networks. An exemplary method embodiment includes the steps of: communicating resource grants to individual customer premise equipment (CPE) devices, the resource grants including at least a first resource grant to a first CPE device and a second resource grant to a second CPE device, the first resource grant giving the first CPE device the right to use a first set of resource blocks on a recurring basis, said second resource grant giving the second CPE device the right to use a second set of resource blocks on a recurring basis; monitoring the use of resource blocks granted to the first and second CPE devices during a first period of time; using stored resource utilization information to determine resource grants which are to be shared by the first and second CPE device.

    Abstract: A first wireless base station provides a communication device access to a remote network over a wireless communication link. The wireless communication link provides poor connectivity between the mobile communication device and the first wireless base station. The first wireless base station receives a notification indicating that the communication device is within wireless range of at least a second wireless base station. To initiate a handoff of the communication device from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station, the first wireless base station transmits a wireless signal encoded to indicate that the wireless signal was transmitted from the second wireless base station. Communication of the wireless signal causes the communication device to perceive that it receives a strong signal from the second wireless base station, prompting the communication device to perform a handoff from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station.

    Abstract: The presentation invention relates to methods and apparatus for coordinating the buffering and transmission of data between a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and a wireless base station. An exemplary method in accordance with one embodiment includes the steps of: receiving a buffer management mode message at a CMTS from a wireless base station; switching, by the CMTS, from operating in a first mode of operation to operating in a second mode of operation with respect to buffering and communicating downlink data to the wireless base station; and while operating in the second mode of operation: (i) creating a plurality of CMTS downlink data buffers, each of the plurality of CMTS downlink data buffers corresponding to a different user equipment device to which the wireless base station is actively providing services; and (ii) storing a received downlink data packet in one of the plurality of CMTS downlink data buffers.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods for providing enhanced coverage in a quasi-licensed wireless system using a reduced-cost base station apparatus. In one embodiment, the base station is configured to utilize quasi-licensed 3.55-3.70 GHz CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) GAA and PAL spectrum, and employs a power amplifier sharing arrangement in its transmitter chain(s), along with multi-sector antenna elements. A scheduling algorithm operative on the base station generates sector-specific weights which are used to allocate the shared power amplifier(s) between the different sectors. Advantageously, design and production costs of the base station are reduced through sharing of comparatively expensive amplifier and transmitter chain components, thereby allowing for commoditization of the base station for mass distribution.
