摘要: The invention relates to a method for processing asphaltene-containing feed to a pyrolysis furnace by raising the final boiling point of the feed/steam mixture to the pyrolysis furnace to ensure fouling occurs lower in the convection section where the mixture of air and steam can burn off fouling deposits during decoking operations. The final boiling point of the feed stream is increased by adding a heavy essentially asphaltene-free high boiling point hydrocarbon to the feed stream before the feed stream enters the convection section of the pyrolysis furnace, whereby said fouling occurs lower in the convection section.

摘要: Techniques and systems are provided for capturing relationships between items in “bonds”, and using the bonds to facilitate searches against the items. It is described how bonds that reflect relationships between searchable items are stored. The degree of separation between any two given searchable items is based on the minimum number of bonds that have to be traversed to arrive at one of the two searchable items when starting at the other of the two searchable items. The bonds are used to respond to a search request, performing a search relative to a designated searchable item. For example, the search mechanism may search only those searchable items that are within a particular degree of separation of the designated searchable item. As another example, the search mechanism may determine the order in which searchable items are compared against search criteria of the search request based on the degree of separation of the searchable items from the designated searchable item. In addition, the search mechanism may ranking the searchable items that match the search based, at least in part, on the degree of separation between the searchable items and the designated searchable item.

摘要: Described herein is a mechanism that follows, at least in part, an object oriented design pattern. In particular, a class is used to model a shared resource as a shared resource object. The class creates one instance of the shared resource object in response to multiple attempts to create a shared resource object from the class. The class defines various methods used to interact with the object. The object receives requests to perform operations from the clients. The clients may register another object to receive from the shared resource object notifications regarding events about the operations requested by the clients.

摘要: A method and mechanism for managing data to resolve incompatibilities between different versions of data is disclosed. According to one approach, incompatibilities to private data is managed using group/member dependent key(s)/link(s), static shared data is managed using group/member dependent key(s)/link(s), and dynamic shared data is managed using data transformation function(s).

摘要: Scintillator materials based on certain types of halide-lanthanide matrix materials are described. In one embodiment, the matrix material contains a mixture of lanthanide halides, i.e., a solid solution of at least two of the halides, such as lanthanum chloride and lanthanum bromide. In another embodiment, the matrix material is based on lanthanum iodide alone, which must be substantially free of lanthanum oxyiodide. The scintillator materials, which can be in monocrystalline or polycrystalline form, also include an activator for the matrix material, e.g., cerium. Radiation detectors that use the scintillators are also described, as are related methods for detecting high-energy radiation.

摘要: A method and system for propagating commit times between a plurality of database servers that have access to a common database is provided. According to the method, each database server is associated with a logical clock. In response to initiating a commit of a transaction executing on a database server, a commit time for the transaction is determined and broadcast to one or more other database servers. According to one aspect, upon receiving the commit time at the one or more other database servers, the database servers compare the transmitted commit time to the time indicated by their logical clock. If the commit time is greater than the time indicated by their logical clock, the database server sets its logical time to reflect a time that is at least as recent as the time reflected by the transmitted commit time.
