摘要： A portable communications device receives from a user a first sequence of symbols that includes a phone number that corresponds to a destination number for a call. If the first sequence of symbols includes a predefined universal international access code symbol followed by the phone number, the device sends an address message corresponding to the first sequence of symbols to a communications network; and if the first sequence of symbols does not include the predefined universal international access code symbol followed by the phone number, the device determines a second sequence of symbols that correspond to the destination number, including the predefined universal international access code symbol if the portable communications device is presently located in a country other than the home country of the portable communications device, and sends an address message corresponding to the second sequence of symbols to the communications network.

摘要： An automatic switch-dialing system and method are provided, that can be applied on a telephone set having both of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) dialing capabilities. During dialing out a phone call, the prefix code and the phone number length of the dialed phone number are compared with those stored in a preset routing table, thus determining the dialing mode of the dialed phone call. As such eliminating the inconvenience of manual setting for the user, and realizing the optimized balance between saving telephone expenses and achieving better communication quality.

摘要： A VOIP service and method is provided which comprises an redirecting dialer device (RDD), which connects a telephone to a POTS circuit. Responsive to DTMF signals from the telephone representative of a long telephone distance number, the RDD intercept the DTMF signals and transits alternative DTMF signals representative of an alternative telephone number of a PSTN/VOIP gateway server. Once connected to the PSTN/VOIP gateway server, the RDD then transmits the DTMF signals associated with the original long distance number. The VOIP gateway server is operative to convert the analog signals from the telephone into digital and packetized VOIP data which is transmitted through a public or private IP-based network to a remote telecommunication device associated with the original long distance telephone number. If the DTMF signals from the telephone are representative of a local telephone number, the RDD is operative to forgo transmitting the alternative DTMF signals.

摘要： A multiple mode, personal, wireless communications system exists within a radiotelephone network serving general customers and provides additional services to a select group of customers. The system uses handsets which automatically switch between a standard cellular radiotelephone mode of operation and an enhanced cordless mode when the handsets are within range of pico cells that are interconnected to the public switched telephone network. Each pico cell is controlled via a framework of overlay cells that operates independently of the radiotelephone network and uses a unique control protocol on a small number of reserved cellular channels. Each pico cell consists of a spectrally dynamic, non-capturing, frequency agile, multi-purpose base station provided at customer-selected locations to cooperate with the overlay cell framework. Each pico cell is capable of supporting multiple handsets and uses low power operation that achieves limited coverage. Each pico cell reduces traffic on the standard cellular radiotelephone network by independently handling registered handsets. An alternate line option module provides wireless local interconnect capability to selectively route call traffic between land lines and the standard cellular radiotelephone network. Service control units and host stations facilitate wireless activation and control of each pico cell and handset via the overlay cell framework.

Formatting rules are recalled for a destination country selected by the user from the country options. The formatted number is supplied to a client installed at the user terminal for effecting the voice communication using the formatted number.

When a user dials a phone number, the number is checked, and a local time of a call recipient of the number is calculated. A message asking whether to proceed with the call when the calculated local time is included in the preset etiquette time is displayed to the user. The call is connected if the user elects to proceed with the call. When there is a time zone difference between the user and the call recipient, there is no need for the user to conduct a prior check. Thus, the possibility of the user inadvertently disturbing the call recipient at inappropriate hours during the night can be averted.

A mobile node is provided with short dialing codes used in a network with which the mobile node is registered by SMS messages sent thereto, such as pursuant to registration procedures. Values of the short dialing codes downloaded to the mobile node are stored at a storage location, such as at a SIM card, indexed together with corresponding codes normally used by a user of the mobile nodes, such as the codes used in the home network of the mobile node. When a user places a call to a service center, the stored values are retrieved, and transposed, if needed, to ensure better that the call to the selected service center is successfully completed.
