Abstract:
Collecting roll data for a sensing roll and mating roll forming a nip includes generating a respective sensor signal from each of a plurality of sensors located at axially spaced-apart locations of the sensing roll, wherein each respective sensor signal is generated when each sensor enters a region of a nip between the sensing roll and the mating roll during each rotation of the sensing roll and receiving the generated signal. Upon receiving the signal, a processor a) determines a particular which of the sensors which generated the signal, b) based upon a rotational position of the mating roll relative to a reference position, determines which one of a plurality of tracking segments associated with the mating roll occurs substantially concurrently with the sensor entering the region of the nip, and c) stores the respective sensor signal to associate the signal with the determined one tracking segment.
Abstract:
A one-piece container formed from a single unitary blank of corrugated paperboard has a bottom wall, opposed side walls and inwardly inclined opposed end walls. Stacking tabs project upwardly from the end walls and tab locks in the bottom wall receive the stacking tabs of a subjacent container when the containers are stacked on top of one another. A reinforcing corner post extends the full height of the container in each corner. The corner posts are formed by panels extending from opposite ends of the end walls, wherein the panels include a first panel foldably joined to an end of an associated end wall and adhered to an adjacent side wall, a second panel foldably joined to the first panel and extending diagonally across the corner, and a third panel foldably joined to the second panel and adhered to an adjacent side wall.
Abstract:
A carton has hand holes in opposite walls and a spacer panel inserted between stacked articles in the carton. The spacer panel has cut outs in its opposite ends positioned behind the hand holes to provide space for inserting the fingers. The hand holes and spacer panel facilitate lifting, carrying and manipulating the carton. The spacer panel has width and length dimensions to fit within the interior width and length dimensions of the carton and reinforces the carton to reduce damage when the carton is dropped.
Abstract:
A process for making bleached pulp comprises contacting an unbleached pulp mixture with a first recycled filtrate obtained from a first location (3) of a first recycled filtrate loop, to obtain a first pulp mixture having a first consistency; bleaching the first pulp mixture, to obtain a first bleached pulp mixture; pressing or dewatering the first bleached pulp mixture, to obtain a first pressed bleached pulp mixture and a second filtrate; sending at least a portion of the second filtrate to a second location (5) of the first recycled filtrate loop, wherein the second location (5) is downstream of and in fluid communication with the first location (3); contacting the first pressed bleached pulp mixture with a second recycled filtrate obtained from a third location (6) of the first recycled filtrate loop, to obtain a second pulp mixture having a second consistency, wherein the second consistency is greater than the first consistency, and wherein the third location (6) is downstream of and in fluid communication with the second location (5); bleaching the second pulp mixture, to obtain a second bleached pulp mixture; pressing or dewatering the second bleached pulp mixture, to obtain a second pressed bleached pulp mixture and a third filtrate; sending at least a portion of the third filtrate to a fourth location (8) of the first recycled filtrate loop, wherein the fourth location (8) is downstream of and in fluid communication with the third location (6); and recycling at least a portion of the third filtrate in the first recycled filtrate loop to the first location (3); to obtain the bleached pulp.
Abstract:
Paperboards having improved MD and CD bending stiffness by including a paperboard binder coalescing agent to cause starch paperboard binder to coat at least some of the paperboard fibers. Also a method for preparing these improved bending stiffness paperboards by combining with an untreated paperboard fiber stream a treated paperboard fiber stream where at least some/at least a portion of the paperboard fibers are coated with a starch paperboard binder due to the coalescing action of a paperboard binder coalescing agent.

Abstract:
A fire resistant fluff pulp web made from a fluff pulp web, a fire retardant component present in and/or on the fluff pulp, and a fire retardant distributing surfactant which distributes the fire retardant component in and/or on the fluff pulp web in a manner so that the fluff pulp web passes one or more fire resistance tests. Also, a process for preparing these fire resistant fluff pulp webs, as well as for treating outer fibrous layers comprising an air-laid mixture of these fire resistant fluff pulp fibers and bicomponent fibers with up to about 5% additional fire retardant and which are used in fire resistant air-laid fibrous structures useful in upholstery, cushions, mattress ticking, panel fabric, padding, bedding, insulation, materials for parts in devices and appliances, etc.
Abstract:
Multiple groups of sensors are circumferentially spaced apart at each cross-directional position along a sensing roll of a nip press to measure and cancel or nearly cancel the effects of rotational variability which may be acting on the sensing roll. The strategically-placed sensors are designed to measure the pressure being placed against the web that is being advanced through the nip press. The average of the measurements of multiple sensors spaced circumferential apart provides a good cancellation of any rotational variability that might be found at a cross-directional position on the sensing roll. In this manner, a more true measurement of the nip pressure profile can be obtained and better adjustments made to reduce nip pressure profile variability. In addition, the nip variability profile may be used as a predictor of cover or bearing failures, resonant frequencies and other roll anomalies.
