Abstract:
The present invention relates to formulations of poorly water soluble pharmaceutical agents of Formula I and II. The present invention also relates to compositions containing compounds of Formula I or II, and glucocorticoids, and methods for reducing side effects from glucocorticoid treatment by co-administration of compounds of Formula I and II. The compositions herein are useful for the treatment of diabetes and obesity related diseases including metabolic syndrome.
Abstract:
Bacteriophages are provided that infect strains of Enterococcus faecalis, an opportunistic bacterial pathogen that causes human disease. Also provided are methods of treating Enterococcus faecalis by therapeutic administration of such bacteriophages.
Abstract:
Compounds are provided having agonistic activity against G protein-coupled receptor 35 (GPR35). The compounds are useful for providing antinociception, providing neuroprotection in case of stroke or ischemia, or treating gastric inflammation.
Abstract:
A composition suitable as a solid polymer electrolyte for a lithium ion battery comprises a mixture of polyoctahedral silsesquioxane-phenyl7(BF3Li)3 and a poly(ethylene oxide).
Abstract:
The present invention features compositions and methods for reducing the concentration of an endocrine disrupting agent in an aqueous solution. We describe compositions comprising various polymeric resins. The methods can be used to reduce the concentration of endocrine disrupting agents, including estrogens, perfluorinated compounds and bisphenol A in an aqueous solution.
Abstract:
Provided is a silica particle coated with β-cyclodextrin, wherein said cyclodextrin is attached to said silica particle via at least one crosslinking agent and/or at least one copolymer. Also provided are methods of removing contaminants from a flowing or stationary liquid phase comprising the step of contacting said liquid phase with the silica particle coated with β-cyclodextrin.
Abstract:
(E)-styryl benzylsulfones of formula I are useful as anticancer agents: 1 wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, fluoro, chloro, iodo, bromo, C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, nitro, cyano and trifluoromethyl, with the proviso that (a) R1, R2 , and R3 not all hydrogen when R4 is 2-chloro or 4-chloro; (b) when R1 and R3 are hydrogen and R2 is 4-bromo or 4-chloro, then R4 may not be 4-chloro, 4-fluoro or 4-bromo; (c) when R1 and R3 are hydrogen and R2 is 4-fluoro, then R4 may not be 4-fluoro or 4-bromo, (d) when R1 is hydrogen, and R4 is 2-fluoro, the R2 and R3 may not be 4-fluoro; and (e) when R1 is hydrogen and R3 is 4-hydrogen, 4-chloro, 4-bromo, 4-methyl or 4-methoxy, and R4 is 2-hydrogen, 2-chloro, or 2-fluoro; then R2 may not be 4-hydrogen, 4-chloro, 4-fluoro, or 4-bromo.
Abstract:
A method for increasing and/or modulating the yield shear stress of an electrorheological fluid includes applying a sufficient electric field to the fluid to cause the formation of chains of particles, and then applying a sufficient pressure to the fluid to cause thickening or aggregation of the chains. An apparatus for increasing and/or modulating the transfer or force or torque between two working structures includes an electrorheological fluid and electrodes through which an electric field is applied to the fluid such that particles chains of particles are formed in the fluid and, upon application of pressure to the fluid, the chains thicken or aggregate and improve the force or torque transmission.
Abstract:
A method of assessing the balance impairment of a subject includes the steps of presenting the subject with a static scene on a display, collecting a first set of orientation measurements, presenting the subject with an unstable scene on a display, collecting a second set of orientation measurements, storing the first and second sets of orientation measurements on a computing device, referenced to a set of time indices, and calculating a balance score for the subject by comparing the second set of orientation measurements with the first set of orientation measurements. A system for assessing the balance impairment of a subject is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are predicted to have a higher risk for developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease than normal women associated with insulin resistance and hypertrophy of adipose tissue. This invention provides improved compositions and methods for the treatment of liver disease in women including in women with PCOS.
