    Abstract: A terminal device for use in a wireless telecommunications system comprises a transceiver to perform wireless communication with a base station and to obtain system information defining communication parameters from system information data received from that base station; system information storage; and a controller to detect whether the system information storage already holds at least some of the system information applicable to a newly communicating base station and to control the transceiver to obtain any portions of the system information not already held by the terminal device, in which: the system information comprises a plurality of system information blocks; and the controller is configured to detect parts of a system information block stored by the system information storage which are applicable to the newly communicating base station and to obtain other parts of that system information block as a partial system information block from the newly communicating base station.

    Abstract: A method for controlling a connection procedure for a terminal device requesting a radio connection to a cell supported by network infrastructure equipment in a wireless telecommunication system, the method comprising: determining, at the terminal device, that a request to connect to the cell supported by the network infrastructure equipment is to be made, establishing, at the terminal device, application information relating to an operating context for the terminal device; transmitting a connection request message from the terminal device to the network infrastructure equipment, wherein the connection request message comprises a request for the terminal device to connect to the cell and an indication of the application information; and determining, at the network infrastructure equipment, whether to allow the request for the terminal device to connect to the cell based, at least in part, on the application information received by the network infrastructure equipment from the terminal device.

    Abstract: A communications device acting as a relay device is configured to communicate with an infrastructure equipment of a mobile communications network and a receiving communications device operating with the mobile communications network. The communications device comprising a receiver configured to receive signals representing protocol data units formed from one or more service data units via a first wireless access interface from the infrastructure equipment according to a first automatic repeat request protocol for transmission to the receiving communications device, a transmitter configured to transmit signals representing the received protocol data units via a second wireless access interface to the receiving communications device according to a second automatic repeat request protocol, a controller configured to control the transmitter to transmit the signals and to control the receiver to receive the signals to transmit, and a buffer configured to store the protocol data units received by the receiver from the infrastructure equipment according to the first automatic repeat request protocol. The controller is configured in combination with the transmitter, the receiver and the buffer to transmit according to the second automatic repeat request protocol the protocol data units received from the infrastructure equipment from the buffer to the receiving communications device In embodiments of the present disclosure, upon receiving acknowledgement or negative acknowledgement signals from the receiving communications device, the communications device acting as the relay device may advance a sliding window of the buffer in order to clear space for the reception of future protocol data units. In embodiments of the present disclosure, the communications device acting as the relay device may, in response to a status request message from the infrastructure equipment, detect that one or more protocol data units have not been received, and transmit to the infrastructure equipment an indication of protocol data units which have therefore not been successfully received. Embodiments of the present technique may also include the relaying of signals on the uplink received by the communications device acting as the relay device from a transmitting communications device and relayed to the infrastructure equipment, or the device-to-device (D2D) relaying of signals between two communications devices.

    Abstract: A method of paging a terminal, by a base station and via a relay node, wherein the terminal is configured to communicate with the base station via the relay node. The method comprises notifying the relay node of a paging identifier for identifying the terminal at least in paging messages; and the base station transmitting a paging message for the terminal. The paging message comprises the paging identifier; the paging message is transmitted at a paging time for a destination identifier; and the method further comprises the relay node monitoring the paging time for the destination identifier for paging messages comprising the paging identifier.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system in which downlink communications are made using a radio interface that spans a system frequency bandwidth (host carrier) and supports at least some communications from a base station to least some terminal devices within a plurality of restricted frequency bands (virtual carriers) which are narrower than and within the system frequency bandwidth. A terminal device conveys an indication of its identity, to the base station during an initial connection procedure as the terminal device seeks to access the radio interface. The terminal device and the base station both determine a selected restricted frequency band from among the plurality of restricted frequency bands based on the identity of the terminal device in the same way. Thus the terminal device and base station select the same restricted frequency band and can accordingly configure their respective transceivers to allow downlink communications between them within the selected restricted frequency band.
