Abstract: An assembly for interconnecting more than one interfacing device has a wall mountable box having cavities therein. The cavities have an open front face and at least a partially open rear face. Edge card connectors interconnectable to shielded or unshielded cable are insertable through the rear face of the wall box. A shielded cable connector portion is insertable through the front face and has an edge card mounted thereto having conductive traces interconnected to resilient terminals, the terminals accessible through the front mating face. An unshielded cable connector portion is insertable through the front mating face of a second cavity. The unshielded connector is mounted to a printed circuit board which is interconnectable with an edge card connector within the cavity. The shielded or unshielded connectors are disposed in the front mating face for interconnection with a mating shielded or unshielded connector.

Abstract: Disclosed are network cable connectors with components such as switches, displays, and printed circuit with controllers. The disclosed network cable connector may be connected to a power over Ethernet (POE) power sourcing equipment (PSE). The printed circuit of the cable connector may request power for the display from the PSE. The switch of the cable connector may be operated such that at least one component of the printed circuit is disconnected from the PSE when an external powered device (PD) is connected to the cable connector. Disconnecting components of the printed circuit from the PSE may reduce the interference to the power negotiation between the PSE and external PD.

Abstract: A circuit board assembly includes a circuit board and an electrical connector having a connector housing holding contacts in a contact array. The connector housing has a mating end configured to be mated with a mating electrical connector in a mating direction. The electrical connector has cables terminated to the contacts and extending from a cable end. A connector mount is used to locate the electrical connector relative to the circuit board. A bracket is coupled to the mounting surface of the circuit board. A biasing member is coupled to the bracket and the mounting feature and is compressible along a compression axis parallel to the mating direction to allow the electrical connector to float in the mating direction relative to the circuit board.

Abstract: Active cables and communication methods can provide data path redundancy with power sharing. In one illustrative cable implementation, the cable includes a first connector with contacts to supply power to circuitry in the first connector; a second connector with contacts to supply power to a component of the circuitry in the first connector via a first connection that prevents reverse current flow; and a third connector with contacts to supply power to the same component via a second connection that prevents reverse current flow. An illustrative method implementation includes: using contacts of a first connector to supply power to circuitry in the first connector; and using contacts in each of multiple redundant connectors to supply power to a component of said circuitry in the first connector via a corresponding diodic or switched connection that prevents reverse current flow.

Abstract: A cable connector is designed to suppress at least a portion of energy that radiates from the signal contacts within the connector itself, and also reduces the effects of electrical interference from either other pairs in nearby connectors or other electrical sources. This is accomplished by grounding the connector's two outermost electrical contacts, thereby providing a path to ground between the signal contacts within the connector itself and any outside elements, including other signal pairs within other nearby connectors. To further improve signal integrity, the spacing between the connector's contacts can be selected such that the impedance of the connector substantially matches that of the cable terminated by the connector, thereby reducing return loss.

Abstract: A printed circuit board (PCB) includes a substrate defining a major plane. A first side of the major plane is configured for mounting of functional circuit elements. A cable connector is mounted on a second side of the major plane of the substrate, opposite the first side, for coupling to a shielded radiofrequency (RF) communications cable. At least one component grounding layer is parallel to the major plane and configured for coupling to the functional elements. At least one cable grounding layer is parallel to the major plane and is separated from the at least one component grounding layer. Each cable grounding layer in the at least one cable grounding layer is coextensive with the substrate and is configured for coupling, through the connector, to shielding of the shielded RF communications cable, without coupling to any other component. Nodes of an RF communications system may be mounted on such PCBs.
