A thin film photonic structure that enables segregation of the effective absorption of the thin film and its intrinsic absorption while substantially eliminating bandwidth restrictions. In the form of an optical resonator, the structure includes two, multi-layer, aperiodic dielectric mirrors and a lossy, dielectric thin film and characterized by an intrinsic optical absorption over at least a one octave bandwidth. The two, multi-layer, aperiodic dielectric mirrors are characterized by a reflectivity amplitude that increases in-step with increasing wavelength over the at least one octave bandwidth. Upon a single incoherent beam of optical radiation having a spectrum over the at least one octave bandwidth incident on one side of the resonator structure, the lossy, dielectric thin film is characterized by an effective optical absorption over the at least one octave bandwidth that is greater than the intrinsic optical absorption over the at least one octave bandwidth.

A computer system may include a server(s) for storing electronic textbook data and a plurality of computing devices each including a display, a memory, a user input device, and a processor. The processor may display the electronic textbook data on the display, receive comment data from a respective user of the computing device with respect to the electronic textbook data, and provide the comment data to the server(s). The server(s) may be configured to distribute the comment data among the plurality of computing devices. The processor of each computing device may be configured to receive a respective user rating for the distributed comment data and provide the user rating to the server(s). The server(s) may be configured to permanently incorporate given distributed comment data into the electronic textbook data when the user ratings for the given distributed comment data reach a rating threshold.
Abstract:
A power inverter combination includes a half-bridge power inverter including first and second semiconductor power switches receiving input power having an intermediate node therebetween providing an inductor current through an inductor. A controller includes input comparison circuitry receiving the inductor current having outputs coupled to first inputs of pulse width modulation (PWM) generation circuitry, and a predictive control block having an output coupled to second inputs of the PWM generation circuitry. The predictive control block is coupled to receive a measure of Vin and an output voltage at a grid connection point. A memory stores a current control algorithm configured for resetting a PWM period for a switching signal applied to control nodes of the first and second power switch whenever the inductor current reaches a predetermined upper limit or a predetermined lower limit.

The TMDC material is plasma treated in an oxygen containing ambient to oxidize the TMDC material to form oxidized dielectric TMDC material. The oxidized dielectric TMDC material has a higher electrical resistivity as compared an electrical resistivity of the TMDC material before the plasma treating, typically >103 times greater.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are method, materials and kits for detection of B. Burgdorferi infection or determining stage of Lyme disease in a subject. Exemlified is a method of diagnosing an infection in a subject, the method involving exposing a biological sample from the subject to a capture substrate under conditions for an infection marker in said biological sample to associate with the capture substrate to form a capture complex; associating said capture complex with a marker complex, said marker complex comprising an oligonucleotide; and amplifying said oligonucleotide of marker complex associated with said capture complex to produce an amplification signal; wherein an amplification signal above a predetermined signal threshold indicates that said subject is infected.
