One claim recites an apparatus comprising: electronic memory for buffering samples corresponding to a digital image; means for analyzing a digital image relative to an expected workflow process, the expected workflow process comprising optical capture of a printed version of the digital image, the digital image comprising data representing process colors CMY; means for applying tone correction to the digital image, said means for applying yielding an altered digital image; means for transforming the altered digital image with digital watermarking, the digital watermarking conveying a plural-bit message; and a processor configured for providing the transformed, altered digital image. Of course, other claims and combinations are provided too.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relate generally to image signal processing, color science and signal encoding. One claim recites an apparatus including: an input for obtaining color image data; memory for storing a luminance contrast sensitivity function (CSF1) and a chrominance contrast sensitivity function (CSF2); means for degrading data representing color image data with the CSF1 and the CSF2 to predict visibility changes attributable to encoding plural-bit information in the obtained color image data, in which the CSF1 varies depending on luminance values associated with local regions of the color image data, in which said means for degrading data representing color image data yields results for different image areas within the color image data, and in which the CSF1 is used for degrading luminance data and the CSF2 is used for degrading chrominance data; and means for altering the color image data by encoding plural-bit information therein, in which signal embedding strength of the encoding within the different image areas varies based on the results. Of course, other features, combinations and claims are disclosed as well.
Abstract:
The present invention relate generally to digital watermarking spot colors. A process color approximation can be used for a spot color, and chrominance watermarking can be performed to insert a watermark. These techniques are particularly suitable for product packaging, color brochures, etc.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates generally to data hiding for product packaging and other printed objects. One embodiment embeds an information signal in a spot color for product packaging. The spot color is screened, and overprinted with process color tint. The tint is modulated prior to overprinting with optimized signal tweaks. The optimization can include consideration of a detector spectral dependency (e.g., red and/or green illumination). Other embodiments and combinations are described in the subject patent document.
Abstract:
This patent document relates generally to steganography and digital watermarking. One claim recites, a method of encoding auxiliary information in an image or video. The method includes: determining a watermark tweak for an attribute of an image or video sample to encode auxiliary information in the image or video; and altering color values of the image or video sample to effect the watermark tweak, said altering alters color values based at least in part on both: i) visibility of color value alterations, and ii) anticipated watermark detection. Of course, other claims are provided too.
Abstract:
This patent document relates generally to steganography and digital watermarking. One claim recites an apparatus comprising: memory for storing data representing an image or video, in which the data comprises first data corresponding to first color data, second data corresponding to second color data and third data corresponding to third color data, the image or video to host auxiliary information; a processor programmed for: weighting the first data, the second data and the third data according to at least the following two factors: i) a color direction associated with an expected embedding direction; and ii) expected image capture or signal processing; and determining from weighted first data, weighted second data and weighted third data, changes in one or more image or video attribute(s), in which the auxiliary information is conveyed through the changes. Of course, other claims and combinations are provided too.
Abstract:
The present disclosures relates generally to digital watermarking and data hiding. One claim recites a smartphone comprising: a camera to capture video of a display that is rendering video, in which the video comprises a first watermark signal embedded in a first portion of the data, a second watermark signal embedded in a second portion of the data, and a third watermark signal embedded in a third portion of the data, in which at least two of the first watermark signal, second watermark signal and third watermark signal are inversely related to one another; electronic memory for buffering data representing captured video; one or more electronic processors programmed for: applying a first perspective distortion to the data representing the captured video to yield first perspective distorted video; and analyzing the first perspective distorted video to detect digital watermarking, in which a second perspective distortion is applied to the data representing the captured video to yield second perspective distorted video when the analyzing does not detect digital watermarking, and then performing analyzing the second perspective distorted video to detect digital watermarking. Of course, other claims are provided too.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and systems to improve network searching for watermarked content. In some implementations we employ keyword searching to narrow the universe of possible URL candidates. A resulting URL list is searched for digital watermarking A system is provided to allow customer input. For example, a customer enters keywords or network locations. The keywords or network locations are provided to a watermark-enabled web browser which accesses locations associated with the keywords or network locations. Some implementations of the present invention employ a plurality of distributed watermark-enabled web browsers. Other aspects of the invention provide methods and system to facilitate desktop searching and automated metadata gathering and generating. In one implementation a digital watermark is used to determine whether metadata associated with an image or audio file is current or fresh. The metadata is updated when it is out of date. Watermarks can also be used to link to or facilitate so-called on-line “blogs” (or online conversations).

Abstract:
Audio sounds are captured from a subject's body, e.g., using a smartphone or a worn array of microphones. Plural features are derived from the captured audio, and serve as fingerprint information. One such feature may be a time interval over which a threshold part of spectral energy in the audio is expressed. Another may be a frequency bandwidth within which a second threshold part of the spectral energy is expressed. Such fingerprint information is provided to a knowledge base that contains reference fingerprint data and associated metadata. The knowledge base matches the fingerprint with reference fingerprint data, and provides associated metadata in return—which can comprise diagnostic information related to the captured sounds. In some arrangements, an audio signal or pressure waveform stimulates the body at one location, and is sensed at another, to discern information about the intervening transmission medium. A great variety of other features and arrangements are also detailed.
