The power switch includes an optical voter, which has a photo conductor array for receiving optical voter input commands from a control system and for selecting a voter output from the majority of the input commands. An electronic power switch receives power input from the power source. The power switch is controlled by the voter output. An output from the power switch is connected to the intended load. A voltage source supplies the voltage to the optical voter. An operational amplifier circuit is connected to the electronic power switch to limit over current and inhibit reverse current in the electronic power switch.

    摘要: A focal plane array (FPA) including a layered composite structure having several layers of materials with differing thermal expansion coefficients (TECs) and thicknesses to stabilize and maintain FPA performance during thermal cycling and excursions. An optical substrate is coupled to a multiplexer through a network of indium bumps. The typical TEC mismatch of the layered materials is offset by particularly selecting the types of materials used and the thicknesses of the individual layers of the FPA. Consequently, undesirable deflections and distortion of the multiplexer and the indium bumps are minimized, thereby substantially improving FPA reliability.

    摘要: A radar digital IF (intermediate-frequency) signal is to be complex demodulated, then processed through a two-channel real lowpass filter, prior to Doppler correction, clutter filtering, and other usual processing steps. A particularly efficient form of lowpass filtering for such applications is the so-called CIC (cascaded integrator/comb) filter. The first stage of such a filter is always an integrator. A conventional mechanization would therefore feature a conventional complex demodulator followed by an accumulator on each of the two demodulator outputs, followed by more processing. This invention more efficiently mechanizes this function by replacing the usual pair of multipliers and pair of accumulators (or integrators) with a single two-delay (54, 58) accumulator having an add/subtract control (48) on the input adder (42), and a pair of multiplexer switches (62, 66).

    摘要: The axially stiff link provides a rigid connection linking two shaft segments (1, 2) of a shaft such that it can bend and or twist yet remain rigid with no slop for high tolerance positioning applications. The link is composed of two rolling elements (4) attached to the shaft segments (1, 2) having a rolling line contact (10) with each other. The rolling elements (4) are held together and preloaded by a ring spring (6) which encircles a portion of the rolling element extending transversely from the shaft segment and engages it by rolling line contact (8). The rolling elements may be solid plain curved portions of the shaft ends, a cylindrical bar, cylindrical bar pairs, or conical pairs to provide for torsional as well as axial bending in the link. Closely spaced perpendicularly disposed axial links provide for 2 axis bending of the shaft.

    摘要: A radar lens 14 is made from a conventional Fresnel lens 10, but replaces the conventional curved surface 32 with a stepped approximation thereto 22, 24, 26, preferably of three steps. The thickness of the stepped lens 14, at each step, is a half-wavelength or a multiple half-wavelength of the radar operating frequency in the medium of the lens 14. The half-wavelength or multiple half-wavelength separation of the steps 22, 24, 26 causes reflections from the front 16 and rear 18 surfaces to cancel, thereby minimizing the (undesirable) standing wave between the lens 14 and the feed horn or feed horns 46, 48, 50. This avoids the necessity of reducing the standing wave by presenting the curved or stepped side 18 forward. The planar side 16 of the lens 14 (unlike the stepped side 18) doesn't need to be protected from road debris. The lens 14 can therefore be molded as an integral unit of a radome, desirable in the automotive setting. This lens 14 is also thin enough (and, therefore, light enough) that it can be moved side-to-side very rapidly, preferably by a combination of cams 42, 52 and springs 44, 54. This allows a very fast scan, albeit over a limited field of view. Gimballing 56 the lens 14 and feed horns 46, 48, 50 together provides a slower scan, but gives an unlimited field of regard. Combining the two gives a fast scan and unlimited field of regard, desirable in the missile setting.

    摘要: A cryogenic propellant tank system and process for densifying cryogenic liquid propellant comprises a tank with a combined manifold, a combined manifold line, a pressurizing gas line, and a vent line. The combined manifold is located in the tank. The combined manifold line functionally connects the combined manifold to a chilling system. The pressurizing gas line and the vent line are also functionally connected to the combined manifold line. The tank may be disposed in a vehicle. The manifold is disposed proximate the top of the tank. The chilling system may be a heat exchanger/filling system. The process for filling the tank comprises the steps of charging the tank with cryogenic liquid propellant, venting gases in the tank, densifying the cryogenic liquid propellant, and pressurizing the tank. The tank is charged with the cryogenic liquid propellant such that the orifices in the combined manifold are submerged. The gases in the tank are vented through the combined manifold and out of the tank. The venting step is arrested prior to the submerging of the combined manifold orifices. The liquid in the tank is densified by directing a recirculation stream of the cryogenic liquid propellant from the tank through the combined manifold, out of the tank, cooling and directing the recirculation stream back into the tank. The tank is pressurized by directing a pressurizing gas stream into the combined manifold and into the tank.

The black liquor is dried by means of hot gases rising from the surface of the pool and the resulting solid particles falling into the turbulent molten salt pool are dispersed and converted into a combustible gas and a reduced melt in which sulfide comprises at least about 95% of the total sulfur present. In a preferred embodiment the product gas is purified, burned and utilized in a gas turbine.

    摘要: A micromechanical inertial sensor includes a pair of proof masses suspended between a pair of fixed structures by beams attached between the ends of the proof masses and the fixed structures, such that the proof masses extend lengthwise along a first axis direction and are able to vibrate back and forth along a second axis substantially orthogonal to the first axis. Each beam attached to the proof masses has increased compliance in the first axis direction, relative to a linear beam of equivalent cross section, such that the beams have reduced resistance to stretching in the first axis direction as the proof masses vibrate in the second axis direction. In one embodiment of the invention, each beam is bowed or curved. Alternatively, compliance of the beam is increased by providing strain relief at one or both ends of the beam, or by providing an extensible portion in each beam.

The fiber optical "T" coupler has three GRIN lenses, a receiving GRIN lens, a transmitting GRIN lens and a focusing GRIN lens, each having a focusing end and a collimating end. Fiber optic elements can be connected to the GRIN lenses focused ends for receiving signals to be collimated or for sending focused signals from the collimated end of the GRINs. Thus a light emitting transducer sends light to the transmitting GRIN lens and through the receiving GRIN lens to a fiber optic element. The same fiber optic element brings light to the receiving GRIN lens which is optically connected to the focusing GRIN lens which focuses the light on a light detecting transducer.
