    摘要: An integrated beam splitter video camera for processing an optical image from an endoscope is shown. The integrated beam splitter video camera includes a housing having a central area which extends therethrough, an optical aperture for passing an optical image to be processed from an endoscope along a predetermined path into the central area of the housing, and a viewing opening for viewing the optical image. A beam splitting surface, located along the predetermined path and within the central area of the housing, receives the optical image and, with a minimum absorption loss in the visible spectrum, transmits a nominal portion of the optical image along a first optical path and reflects the remaining substantial portion of the optical image along a second optical path which is at a selected angle to the first optical path. A viewing optical system is positioned within the central area of the housing and along the first optical path to intercept the nominal portion of the optical image for forming a viewable image of the optical image which is viewable through the viewing opening. An optical image processing system, located within the housing, is positioned relative to the second optical path to receive and process the remaining substantial portion of the optical image. The optical processing system includes a sensor-converter for producing video signals representing the optical image. A method for processing the optical image is also shown.

    摘要: An electrosurgical device for use in the treatment of tissue, particularly in the esophageal and anal regions of the body. The device comprises a multipolar probe body sized for passage into and within a body cavity whose tissue is to be treated without the aid of an endoscope. The probe body includes an active member for providing focused treatment of tissue, the active member being cylindrical and having a peripheral surface on which are mounted a plurality of electrodes, those of one polarity being interposed with those of the opposite polarity. The length of the electrodes can be chosen to obtain desired longitudinal focussing. Additionally, the electrodes can be positioned within a restricted arc to obtain desired peripheral focussing. The probe body also includes non active rounded cap members at its proximal and distal ends, and at its proximal end is mounted on a shaft which extends to the user. A filliform may be mounted on the distal end of the probe body to aid in its insertion into the esophagus. A handle can be attached to the shaft to enable the user to easily adjust the longitudinal positioning of the probe body as well as rotate the probe body about its longitudinal axis to precisely focus on the tissue to be treated without adversely affecting surrounding tissue.

In the preferred embodiment the core of the endoscope has indentations longitudinally extending along its exterior surface in a peanut-like cross-sectional configuration while the sheath has channels within longitudinally extending thicker portions. The sheath is positionable on the endoscope core with its thickened portions located within the indentations. Alternate embodiments are disclosed as are the method and apparatus for placing sheaths on endoscope cores and their removal.

    摘要: A highly compact focusable video camera for use in medical and surgical procedures in conjunction with an endoscope is shown. The focusable video camera includes a body having a front end and sidewalls which define a cavity, an adjusting element having an optical aperture positioned external of the body forward of the front end, an extension element integral to the adjusting element extending through and movable relative to the aperture in the front end portion which defines an optical path from the optical aperture of the adjusting element into the cavity, and an optical system aligned with the optical aperture in the optical path to define optical axes extending through the optical system and outside the body for receiving and transmitting an optical endoscope image. The optical system includes a forward portion mounted in the extension element for forward and rearward movement, a rearward portion fixably mounted in the cavity, a sensor-converter operatively placed inside the cavity to receive the optical image passing through the optical system for converting the optical image to an unprocessed video signal, a video electronic processing circuit located in the cavity extending around the outside of the rearward portion of the optical system, and a releasable holding member for selectively fixing the position of the forward portion of the optical system relative to the rearward portion of the optical system.

    摘要: A seal for the accessory port of a medical instrument comprises a first region having an aperture formed in elastomeric material. The aperture permits an accessory of slightly greater diameter to be sealably introduced through the accessory port of the instrument. The seal includes a second region of elastomeric material distal to the first region, which includes a hatch with a closeable passageway. The hatch sealably engages the accessory and also seals the accessory port when no accessory is in place. The first region and/or the second can be stretched and distorted as an accessory passes therethrough. Therefore, it is preferable to dispose a relief cavity between the aperture and the hatch. The relief cavity separates the two regions so that the aperture and hatch can each independently maintain an effective seal around an accessory. The relief cavity also provides a break between the aperture and hatch that minimizes drag on the accessory. The seal may include a compression element around the outer surface. Preferably, the compression element is a ring that provides predetermined coaxial compression on the passageway in the hatch through which an accessory is extended.
