摘要： A communications network with callback completion to public network stations. An enterprise private network (EPN) includes a communications server, e.g., a private branch exchange (PBX) managing communications with communications devices located at EPN stations and is connected to a public communications network. A call completion (CC) server connected through a Parlay Gateway to the public communications network manages callback requests from connected communications devices to public communications network stations. Call completion to busy subscriber (CCBS) and call completion on no reply (CCNR) services are thus made available from the EPN to the public network or networks including a mixture of public and private telephones.

In the preferred embodiment, a queue handler processes the incoming telephone calls to an automatic call distribution system. A monitoring means, such as a server, is used to monitor the queue. It can also monitor agent activities. A contacting means, such as a computer, is used for connecting the agents to the incoming calls. The contacting means also provides training to the agent. Thus, the agents are automatically provided with training based on the queue activity.

摘要： A data compression/expansion method and apparatus are provided. The data compression apparatus (70) includes a repetitive symbol detector (72), a shift register (74), a FIFO (76), a byte counter (78), and a map buffer (80). The symbol detector (72) generates an output signal indicating the presence of repetitive symbols in an input data segment (10). The shift register (74) functions as a map generator, producing a map (16) for locating the repetitive symbols in the input segment (10). The FIFO (76) acts as a gate for removing the repetitive symbols from the input segment to produce a compressed output segment (14). The compressed segment (14) and map (16) can then be transmitted to the expansion apparatus (90). The data expansion apparatus (90) includes a buffer (92), a shift register (94), and a multiplexer (95). The buffer (92) temporarily stores the compressed segment (14). The shift register (74) and multiplexer (95) cooperate to decompress the output segment (14) by re-inserting the repetitive symbols according to the map (16). The compression/expansion apparatuses (70, 90) provide an efficient system for removing frequently occurring symbols from a communications channel.

摘要： A method and system for automatically providing remote notification of a locally detected event includes receiving data and analyzing the content of the data using a data filter of a computer. The data filter is configured to detect an indication of a predetermined event within the data. If the event is detected, the data filter activates a local event indicator associated with the computer. An event indicator monitor determines whether a user response is initiated within a configurable time interval after activation of the event indicator. If the monitor determines that no user response is initiated within the configurable time interval, the monitor transmits an establish-connection message to a control program. The control program responds to the establish-connection message by accessing an event notification message from a database which indicates access numbers of the remote communication devices to which to transmit the event notification message. Communication links are established to the remote communication devices and the event notification message is transmitted to the devices. The data filter is capable of analyzing data included in web page updates transmitted to a web browser of the computer, e-mail messages, scheduling updates and requests transmitted to an electronic calendar of the computer, and scheduling reminders transmitted by the electronic calendar.
