Abstract:
A polymeric lubricating oil additive containing pendant perfluoroaliphatic urethane units that behaves as a VI Improver and a fuel economy enhancer when added to lubricating oil compositions. The polymeric substrate may be a copolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene and propylene or a terpolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene, propylene, and 20-80 mole % of a non-conjugated diene or triene (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha olefin. The copolymer or terpolymer substrate has a molecular weight range of about 5,000 to about 500,000. A graft copolymer or terpolymer containing pendant isocyanate groups is prepared by reacting the ethylene propylene co- or terpolymer with an acrylating agent. Post-reacting the copolymer or terpolymer containing the pendant isocyanate group with a perfluoroaliphatic alcohol generates the additive.

Described are novel enaminones of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a lower alkyl or oxyalkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, R.sub.1 is an alkyl group having from 1 to 200 carbon atoms or a similar alkyl group substituted by nitrogen, oxygen or other inert substituents; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 is an alkyl or substituted alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms. These products are prepared by the reaction of a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound and a primary or secondary amine analog. In neat or mixed form, the present compounds are useful as dispersants-detergents in oleaginous compositions.
Abstract:
Dispersant additives in lubricating oils are formed by reaction of polyacids such as 1,3,6-hexane tricarboxylic acid and polyisobutenyl succinimide of a polyamine.
Abstract:
Lubricating oil characterized by improved friction reduction contains friction reducing amounts of a keto amide prepared by the reaction of an amine and an unsaturated cyclic keto acid bearing pendant alkyl groups.

Abstract:
Methods and system for enhancing the fuel economy of a diesel engine is disclosed. The system is useable in a four stroke diesel engine to allow a first injection step to be performed whereby fuel is injected into the cylinders of a diesel engine to initiate combustion of the fuel within the cylinder. A second injection step then occurs, whereby an additive is injected into the cylinder, during the cycle but at a time different than the first injection step wherein the additive reaches the cylinder wall. The additive, which reaches the cylinder wall, provides friction modification and fuel economy benefits for a diesel engine.
Abstract:
A fuel additive composition for improving the delivery of friction modifier to the lubricant oil of an internal combustion engine comprising (a) a friction modifying amount of a reaction product of at least one natural or synthetic oil and at least one alkanolamine; and, (b) at least one fuel detergent is provided. Also provided is a fuel composition containing the fuel additive composition and a method for operating an engine employing the fuel composition therefor.
