Abstract:
A low-pressure compressor exit stator assembly for a gas turbine includes a multiple of vanes mounted between a full hoop outer shroud and an inner shroud. The outer shroud and inner shroud are mounted to the intermediate case structure. A seal is located between the outer shroud and a bleed duct structure to accommodate thermal growth mismatch.

Low level laser therapy apparatus for treatment of various conditions is described. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a hand-held laser probe coupled to a control unit. The probe includes a probe head in which a laser diode(s) is mounted, emitting energy having a wavelength of 670 nm, 830 nm, 867 nm, 904 nm or 980 nm and configured to emit laser energy at a mean output power from 1 mW to 600 mW. The apparatus includes a heat-sensitive power management system allowing for continued use at high power output and audible tone to signify each joule of laser energy output. In an alternative embodiment, the apparatus includes a magnetic card reading device used in conjunction with the control unit to create single or double blinded studies with the device.
Abstract:
The present invention regards amplification of a signal from a hybridization-based oligonucleotide assay. In some embodiments, a bead comprises an oligonucleotide hybridized to a labeled polynucleotide from a sample, and a signal generated from a complex thereof is amplified through labeled antibodies directed to a receptor for the label. In particular embodiments, the assay provides information on gene expression.
Abstract:
A method of diffusion bonding three metal work pieces to form a fan blade, where each workpiece has a flat surface and an excess portion larger than a predetermined size needed to produce a finished fan blade; longitudinally extending slots are provided to interconnect the flat surfaces of the excess portions of the work pieces; the work pieces are assembled into a stack with the flat surfaces in mating abutment and the stack is evacuated from one end of the stack through the slots; heat and pressure are applied across the thickness of the work pieces to diffusion bond the work pieces together to form an integral structure; the excess portions with the slots are then removed.
Abstract:
In a method of manufacturing a hollow component metallic sheets are diffusion bonded together except where a stop off pattern is applied to the surfaces of the sheets. A gas channel is accommodated in the thickness of the sheets for the entry of pressurised gas under superplastic forming conditions to produce the hollow component. The material defining the gas channel is locally deformed by forging to reduce the height of the gas channel in order that a subsequent fusion welding pass over the deformed area defining the gas channel hermetically seals the gas channel.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for updating and recovering firmware within computers over a distributed network. While a computer is in an operating system independent state, a determination is made as to whether the firmware within the computer is valid. The firmware may be the BIOS for the computer. If it is determined that the current firmware is invalid, a recovery request is sent to a manager computer monitoring for recovery requests. The manager computer sends a new firmware image over the network to the computer. The invalid firmware is then updated with the new firmware image. An instruction to update the firmware of the computer may also be sent from a manager computer to computers monitoring for instructions. When the instruction is received, the computer transitions to an operating system independent recovery state, receives a new firmware image over the network, and updates with the new firmware image.
Abstract:
A plurality of titanium sheets are assembled into a stack. At least one of the sheets is provided with a stop off material on one of its surfaces to prevent diffusion bonding at predetermined positions. The edges of the sheets are welded together and a pipe is welded to the stack to interconnect with the stop off material to form a sealed assembly. The assembly is heated and externally pressurized to diffusion bond the sheets together. The integral structure so formed is heated and opposite ends of the integral structure are twisted relatively to contour the integral structure to a predetermined shape. The integral structure is internally pressurized to break the adhesive bonds. The integral structure is heated and internally pressurized to superplastically form one sheet to produce an article, e.g. a fan blade.
Abstract:
A system, comprising two display screens, each having a reflective surface that can act as a mirror when the display screen is turned off, a camera attached to each display screen, cables connecting each camera to the display screen to which it is not attached, and a switch for each display screen, that can turn the display screen on or off. Alternatively, there may be two-sided mirrors that can be flipped down to cover the display screens, and flipped up to uncover them. The images on the display screens may be split between two or more cameras. Alternatively, there may be three or more display screens, and a switch for each display screen, that can turn the display screen on or off, and if on, select which camera's input will be displayed on the display screen, or else a switch for each connection between a camera and a display screen.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for processing a financial transaction are provided. A representative system of processing a financial transaction comprises a product dispensing device that encodes and outputs public transaction data related to a purchasable item. A portable computing device receives the public transaction data and encodes a payment data with the received public transaction data. A payment processing server receives and processes the encoded data, and determines whether a transaction can be completed based on the encoded data. Responsive to determining that the transaction is completed, the payment processing server generates and transmits an authentication data based on the encoded data. The portable computing device receives and outputs the authentication data. The product dispensing device receives the authentication data, verifies payment based on the received authentication data, and provides the purchasable item to a customer who is operating the portable computing device.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a novel apparatus and way for directing a supply of compressed air into a fuel nozzle assembly for mixing with a fuel source. The apparatus comprises a fuel nozzle assembly having a plurality of coaxial tubes and radially-extending swirler vanes for directing a supply of fuel to a mixing tube. Compressed air is directed to flow in a primarily axial direction by passing through a hemispherically-shaped dome portion at an air inlet region of the fuel nozzle assembly. The hemispherically-shaped dome includes a plurality of openings for directing air into the fuel nozzle assembly in a direction having a radial and axial component
