Abstract: Disclosed are methods, systems, and non-transitory, machine-readable media that facilitate personalized home automation control based at least in part on individualized protocol. First sensor data may be received, and may be indicative of an identified individual that is sensed by a set of sensors. A particularized pattern of activity of individual may be determined. Second sensor data may be indicative of an unidentified individual. Identification rules specified by a stored protocol record may include criteria for identifying sensed individuals. The second sensor data and/or identification information from another data source may be analyzed to identify the unidentified individual. A home automation rule may be determined based on the particularized pattern, which rule may include an anticipation of an operational setting of a home automation device. The home automation device may be instructed based on the determined home automation rule.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide a systems and methods for finding wireless signals sufficient for installation of wireless home automation devices. Before such home automation devices are installed, or during the process of installing such home automation devices, the remote-control device of a wireless home automation hub may detect whether a suitable wireless signal is able to be received from the home automation hub or from a wireless repeater device at various locations on the customer premises and indicate that on the remote-control device. The remote control device may continue to display such an indication regarding the signal, or lack thereof, as the user moves about the customer premises with the remote control. In this manner, the user may find what locations on the customer premises are suitable for installation of home automation devices to communicate wirelessly with the home automation hub.

Abstract: The present technology relates to systems and methods for control of home automation activity based on user characteristics. More specifically, the present technology relates to using a home automation system to control home automation activity based on user characteristics and weighting home automation sensors based on priority. Example embodiments include receiving an input including user preferences, assigning a weight to HVAC sensors using the preferences, generating a profile using the set of preferences and the weights, transmitting the profile to an HVAC system to run the HVAC system, receiving HVAC data recorded by the HVAC sensors, updating the HVAC profile, and transmitting the updated HVAC profile to be displayed on a television display device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are operable to increase brightness output from a display. An exemplary embodiment detects a predefined user action of a remote control, and then increases brightness of a currently presented image that is being presented on the display in response to detecting the predefined user action so that an ambient lighting level in the vicinity of the display is increased.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide a card reader that provides heat dissipation for high data transfer ICCs. The card reader includes a body having a press bar that physically contacts an upper surface of the ICC when fully inserted into the card reader. The press bar includes an aperture directly overlying and aligned with the card contacts of the card reader and the contact pads of the ICC when fully inserted. The aperture allows any heat generated by the ICC to radiate to a surrounding cooling medium, such as air.

Abstract: Systems, devices and processes are described to adapt segment requests placed by an autonomous media player during media streaming to compensate for fluctuations in the bandwidth consumed by the requested segments due to variances in the underlying video content. By providing predictive data about the bandwidth consumption of upcoming video segments, client devices can adapt requests for future segments accordingly. Further, predictive consumption data can be shared between players operating within shared bandwidth to assist players needing additional bandwidth for upcoming video sequences.

Abstract: TDMA communications between a host device and a number of clients on a communications channel are dynamically adapted to allocate or de-allocate time slots in response to changes in the number of active clients. The system initially operates in a startup mode in which the host device transmits a startup message on the communications channel and assigns a timeslot in a TDMA cycle in response to connection requests received from each of the requesting clients. After exiting the startup mode, the system operates in a normal mode in which the host device initiates the TDMA cycle by transmitting a polling message on the communications channel that indicates a number of timeslots occurring within that particular TDMA cycle. The host changes the number of timeslots indicated in the polling message to responsively adapt duration of the TDMA cycle as the number of clients communicating via the communications channel changes.

Abstract: Method, systems, and computer-readable media are provided to facilitate content discovery based on augmented context. A first set of images of a graphical display may be acquired and analyzed to identify visual characteristics of an object represented. Attributes of the object may be identified. Specifications may be transmitted to the television receiver and/or a remote data source in order to pull matching information. A user-selectable interface element may be generated for presentation as an option to take an action relating to the object represented. A visual output of the interface element may be output as an overlay on the first set and/or a second set of images displayed by the computing device. A user selection responsive to the outputting of the visual output of the at interface element may be processed. A communication may be transmitted to the television receiver to cause the action responsive to the user selection.

Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for hardware enforcement of hardware functionality in a television receiver. An activation message containing an activation code for a specific hardware component within the television receiver can be transmitted from a television service provider system to a television receiver having an associated smart card. The smart card can decrypt the activation message, security check the activation message, confirm the activation message is intended for the television receiver, encrypt the activation message with a local key, and transmit the activation message to a security processor on the television receiver. The security processor can decrypt the activation message, security check the activation message to ensure it is from the smart card and has not been tampered with, and enable the hardware component within the television receiver based on the activation code within the activation message.
