A mobile terminal having a flat panel sound output unit and vibration generation method for the same are disclosed. When a user touches the mobile terminal, the user can feel a sense of touch through the flat panel sound output unit. The mobile terminal includes: a touch screen; a flat panel sound output unit attached on a surface of the touch screen to generate sounds or vibrations according to an input signal; and a vibration processor sending, when a touch event occurs at the touch screen, a signal to the flat panel sound output unit to generate vibrations corresponding to the touch event. Hence, the method can provide a sense of touch to the user without use of a separate vibration motor.

A semiconductor optical device including an SSC region includes a semiconductor substrate, a lower clad layer grown on the semiconductor substrate, and an upper clad layer grown on the lower clad layer. The semiconductor optical device with an SSC (Spot Size Conversion) area includes a gain area including an active layer grown between the lower clad layer and the upper clad layer to generate/amplify an optical signal; and an SSC (Spot Size Conversion) area including a waveguide layer extended from the active layer positioned between the lower and upper clad layers, such that it performs a spot size conversion (SSC) process of the optical signal generated from the gain area and generates the SSC-processed optical signal. The waveguide layer of the SSC area is configured to gradually reduce its thickness in proportion to a distance from the active layer, and the upper clad layer is etched in the form of a taper structure such that the taper structure has a narrower width in proportion to a distance from one end of the semiconductor optical device having the gain area to the other end of the semiconductor optical device having the SSC area.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a vibration module for a portable terminal that includes a housing, a magnetic moving part movable in a first direction within the housing; an elastic member supported between the opposite ends of the magnetic moving part and inner walls of the housing, and a solenoid coil provided in the housing. The vibration module is positioned at one end of the moving section by the magnetic force of the magnetic moving part and an object around the magnetic moving part, allowing the vibration module to provide a user with a feeling similar to a click feeling via the acceleration produced at a stopping instant. In addition, when vibrating, the vibration module generates sufficient vibration power through acceleration at the instant of changing moving direction at the ends of the moving section, to provide an alarm function, such as an incoming call notification.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a vibration motor for a portable terminal, including a flat spring; a cylindrical magnetic substance mounted on the flat spring; an annular magnetic substance disposed around the cylindrical magnetic substance mounted on the flat spring; and a coil disposed between the cylindrical magnetic substance and the annular magnetic substance, wherein the magnetic substances perform a linear reciprocal movement by the electromagnetic force generated between the magnetic substances and the coil and by the elastic force of the flat spring as an electric current is applied to the coil. The vibration motor operates at higher resonant frequencies than those of conventional vibration motors, thereby improving the sense of an after-vibration and realizing a delicate haptic feedback function.
Abstract:
An optical spot size converter integrated laser device includes a substrate; a first waveguide laminated on the substrate and optically coupled to an optical fiber, the first waveguide being divided into a light source region having an active waveguide and an optical spot size converter region, and a trench formed on both lateral walls of the first waveguide on the substrate so that light emitted from the active waveguide interferes with light reflected by a wall surface of the first waveguide inside the first waveguide. By means of mutual interference between light emitted directly from the active waveguide of the laser device and light reflected by the interference waveguide, the optical spot size of a laser can be adjusted without affecting the single mode of the laser.
