Abstract:
A method and system for relieving forging induced residual stresses in a rotor forging balances a pre-spin machine with the forging mounted thereon at a first rotational speed and then pre-spins the forging with it mounted on the machine at a substantially greater second rotational speed. A one per rev sensor is used for determining a weight placement angle and a vibration sensor is used for determining an amount of weight to add to a spinning assembly including the forging during the balancing. High-density non-metallic balance weights adhesively attached on an inside surface of the forging or spinning assembly may be used. The rotational inertia of the spinning assembly may be checked during a spin up period by determining a rate of rotational acceleration vs. torque applied to the spinning assembly and used to stop the pre-spinning if it is to great.

A method and system for transforming acquired ultrasound data for processing that includes the steps of generating ultrasound data, calculating object motion, modifying a data generation parameter using the calculated object motion, processing the ultrasound data related to the generated ultrasound data, and outputting the processed data. The method and system may additionally include buffering data from a data acquisition device.
Abstract:
A Dedicated Administrator Connection (DAC) for a database server is provided that allows a user with administrator privileges to connect to the database server when a connection by standard means fails. By allowing an administrator to connect to the server through the DAC, the administrator can resolve the issue despite the failure and bring back the server to a responsive state without requiring the server to be shut down and restarted. Additionally, support engineers, developers, etc. can use the DAC to diagnose a range of problems without the use of a debugger or requesting a repro while monitoring for issues.
Abstract:
A polyisocyanate-based elastomer having a ratio of the storage modulus (E′) at 20° C. and the storage modulus (E′) at 120° C. of between 0.75 and 1.5, a tan δ at 100° C. of less than 0.1 and a maximum value of the tan δ of more than 0.8, the tan δ being the ratio of the loss modulus (E″) and the storage modulus (E′).

Abstract:
There is disclosed a method of manufacturing of optical devices, for example, semiconductor optoelectronic devices such as laser diodes, optical modulators, optical amplifiers, optical switches, and the like. There is further disclosed Optoelectronic Integrated Circuits (OEICs) and Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) including such devices. According to the present invention there is provided a method of manufacturing an optical device (40), a device body portion (15) from which the device (40) is to be made including a Quantum Well Intermixing (QWI) structure (30), the method including the step of plasma etching at least part of a surface of the device body portion (5) prior to depositing a dielectric layer (51) thereon so as to introduce structural defects at least into a portion (53) of the device body portion (5) adjacent the dielectric layer (51). The structural defects substanially comprise “point” defects.
Abstract:
A method of creating a family tree includes receiving genealogy data at a host computing system from at least one primary source and creating one or more node records and one or more link records using the genealogy data. The individual node records include at least name data and each individual link record includes relationship data that represents a relationship between individual node records. The method also includes comparing individual node records and identifying pairs of records having similar data. For each identified pair of individual node records, the method includes comparing related individual node records and deciding based on predetermined criteria whether the identified pair of individual node records represent the same person. The method also includes consolidating the information from a plurality of records determined to represent the same person into a single person record. The method also includes receiving a request at the host computing system from a user computer to display a family tree and using the individual link records, the individual node records, and the single person records to create a data representation comprising the requested family tree. The method also includes sending the data representation to the user computer.
Abstract:
There is disclosed an improved semiconductor laser device (10). Previous high power (greater than a few hundred milliwatts output) semiconductor lasers suffer from a number of problems such as poor beam quality and low brightness. The invention therefore provides a semiconductor laser device (10) including at least one portion which has been Quantum Well Intermixed (QWI) and means for providing gain profiling within an active portion of the device (10). In a preferred implementation the device (10) provides a Wide Optical Waveguide (WOW).
