Abstract: A coil for transfer of information or energy is described. The coil includes an electrically conductive magnetically insulative first layer and a magnetically conductive second layer bonded to the first layer along the length of the first layer. The first and second layers are wound to form a plurality of substantially concentric loops. A width and a length of the second layer may be substantially co-extensive with a respective width and length of the first layer so as to expose opposing longitudinal edge surfaces of the first layer along the length of the first layer. At least one of the opposing longitudinal edge surfaces may include a regular pattern extending substantially along a same first direction and across substantially the entire coil. A method of making the coil is described.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides compositions, articles, and methods related to altering electromagnetic radiation. An actinic radiation curable precursor composition of a three-dimensional article includes a) a resin comprising an actinic radiation curable component, wherein the resin has a viscosity no greater than 500 cP; b) hollow glass microspheres having a density no greater than 2 g/mL and an average diameter no greater than 200 micrometers; and c) a photoinitiator. At least part of the surface of the hollow glass microspheres comprises a surface coating or modification. An article includes a photo(co)polymerization reaction product of the composition. A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional article includes the steps of a) providing an actinic radiation curable precursor composition; and b) selectively exposing a portion of the composition to a source of actinic radiation to at least partially cure the exposed portion of the composition, thereby forming a cured layer. Steps a) and b) are repeated so as to form a three-dimensional article. A three-dimensional article is provided, obtained according to the method. Methods of interfering with electromagnetic radiation originating from an electromagnetic radiation producing device are provided, including integrating an article into the electronic device or placing an article in the vicinity of the electromagnetic radiation producing device.

Abstract: An antenna for transfer of information or energy is described. The antenna includes an electrically conductive first layer having a width in a thickness direction of the antenna and extending longitudinally along a length of the first layer between first and second longitudinal ends of the first layer, and an electrically insulative thermally conductive second layer bonded to the first layer along the length of the first layer. The first and second layers are wound to form a plurality of substantially concentric loops. A width and a length of the second layer are substantially co-extensive with the respective width and length of the first layer so as to expose opposing longitudinal edge surfaces of the first layer along the length of the first layer. Coils and assemblies useful for making coils are also described.

Abstract: A magnetic film assembly includes a coil having a plurality of turns defining a first major boundary surface of the coil, such that when energized, the coil generates an in-plane magnetic field component in a region of interest in air proximate and substantially parallel to the first major boundary surface, the in-plane magnetic field component having a magnetic field strength H that varies between a maximum Hmax and about 10% of Hmax in the region of interest in air; and a magnetic layer disposed on the coil so as to include the region of interest, such that when energized, the coil generates a magnetic field inducing an in-plane magnetic flux density B in the magnetic layer in the region of interest that varies less than about 5% in the region of interest.
