Abstract: A manufacturing system, comprises one or more image capture devices configured to generate one or more images of a three-dimensional (3D) printed orthodontic appliance associated with a dental arch of a patient. The manufacturing system further comprises a computing device configured to: receive the one or more images of the 3D printed orthodontic appliance; process the one or more images of the 3D printed orthodontic appliance to determine probabilities of one or more types of manufacturing defects for the 3D printed orthodontic appliance; and determine whether to use the 3D printed orthodontic appliance for orthodontic treatment of the patient based on the probabilities of the one or more types of manufacturing defects.

Abstract: A system comprises a memory comprising instructions for detecting one or more defects in a customized dental appliance manufactured via direct fabrication, and a processing device. Execution of the instructions causes the processing device to determine an area of the one or more images of the customized dental appliance to be compared with a digital model of the customized dental appliance, compare the area of one or more images of the customized dental appliance with the digital model of the customized dental appliance, determine a difference between a representation of the customized dental appliance in the area of the one or more images and the digital model of the customized dental appliance at a region of the customized dental appliance, and responsive to determining that the difference satisfies a defect criterion, determine that the customized dental appliance has a manufacturing defect at the region associated with the difference.

Abstract: Two or more adjacent teeth in a virtual model are determined. The two or more adjacent teeth include a first tooth adjacent to a second tooth in the virtual model. The virtual filler is inserted in the virtual model between the first tooth and the second tooth. Points in the virtual model are selected. The points and the virtual filler are transformed into a voxel volume. A geometry of an updated virtual filler is determined by transforming a surface of the voxel volume into a polygonal mesh.

Abstract: A processing device determines two or more adjacent teeth in a virtual model, the two or more adjacent teeth include a first tooth adjacent to a second tooth in the virtual model. The processing device inserts a first virtual filler in the virtual model between the first tooth and the second tooth. The processing device selects points in the virtual model. A processing device transforms the plurality of points into a voxel volume comprising a plurality of voxels. A processing device performs a smoothing operation on the voxel volume. A processing device subsequent to performing the smoothing operation on the voxel volume, determines a geometry of an updated virtual filler by transforming a surface of the smoothed voxel volume into a polygonal mesh.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing automated quality control for 3D printed molds for orthodontic aligners are described. A method includes generating a plurality of images of the 3D printed mold for the orthodontic aligner using one or more imaging devices, wherein each image of the plurality of images depicts a distinct region of the 3D printed mold for the orthodontic aligner; processing the plurality of images by a processing device to identify one or more types of manufacturing defects of the 3D printed mold for the orthodontic aligner, wherein for each type of manufacturing defect a probability that an image comprises a defect of that type of manufacturing defect is determined; and classifying, by the processing device, the 3D printed mold for the orthodontic aligner as defective based on identifying the one or more types of manufacturing defects.
