Abstract: Methods and systems for digitally designing a plurality of aligners are provided. In some embodiments, a method includes receiving an intraoral scan of the patient's teeth, and generating 3D dental model of the patient's teeth using the intraoral scan. The method can include identifying a movement path to move the patient's teeth from an initial arrangement toward a target arrangement through a plurality of intermediate arrangements in accordance with a treatment plan. The method can also include identifying one or more appliance features of at least one aligner, the one or more appliance features including one or more feature regions having one or more feature thicknesses. The method can further include instructing an additive manufacturing machine to directly fabricate the at least one aligner in a layer-by-layer fashion.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for using rescan data in dental procedures, such as the preparation of orthodontics and prosthodontics. A method may include receiving scan data of a patient's teeth, demarcating useful data from data that should be replaced, receiving rescan data, and replacing at least a portion of the scan data that should be replaced with at least a portion of data from the rescan data.

Abstract: A physical model of at least a portion of a patient's dentition has model dental surfaces corresponding to real dental surfaces of the patient's dentition. The physical model includes one or more targets, each configured for facilitating placement of an orthodontic appliance on the model at a desired location. The targets lack mechanical stops that are outwardly protruding from the original model dental surfaces. Also provided are a method of manufacturing a physical model for use in indirect bonding procedures, a method for indirect bonding for use in an orthodontic procedure, a method for providing an indirect bonding transfer tray for use in an orthodontic procedure, and a system for providing a physical model for use in indirect bonding orthodontic procedures.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for improved orthodontic treatment of a patient's teeth are provided herein. In some embodiments, a method includes determining an appliance geometry for a dental appliance. The appliance geometry can include a first region representing a shell comprising a plurality of teeth receiving cavities, and a second region representing at least one integrally formed component to be integrally joined to the shell. The method can also include generating instructions including a first digital representation of the shell based on the first region, and a second digital representation of the at least one integrally formed component based on the second region. The method can further include transmitting the instructions to a fabrication system configured to additively manufacture the dental appliance by fabricating the shell based on the first digital representation, concurrently with fabricating the at least one integrally formed component based on the second digital representation.

Abstract: An intraoral scanning system for scanning an intraoral dental structure of a patient in a dental procedure may include an intraoral scanner and one or more processors coupled to the intraoral scanner and programmed with instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the intraoral scanning system to build a 3D model of the intraoral dental structure of the patient based on scan data acquired via the intraoral scanner and output feedback on a display. The feedback may include highlighting a portion of the 3D model that includes scan data that includes a finish line of the intraoral dental structure, wherein the scan indicates that the finish line is not suitable for receiving a prosthetic.

Abstract: A processor receives first intraoral scan data comprising a first depiction of a dental site; generates a virtual three-dimensional (3D) model of the dental site using the first intraoral scan data; and processes at least one of the first intraoral scan data or data from the virtual 3D model to identify an unclear feature. The processor outputs instructions to generate second intraoral scan data of the dental site depicting the portion of the dental site that is unclear; receives the second intraoral scan data; and updates the virtual 3D model of the dental site using the second intraoral scan data, wherein the portion of the dental site that was unclear in the virtual 3D model is replaced with information from the second intraoral scan data.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a dental appliance includes receiving a digital three-dimensional model of a mold for a dental arch of a patient, the digital three-dimensional model of the mold comprising one or more features associated with a cut line. The method further includes fabricating the mold by a rapid prototyping machine using the digital three-dimensional model, the mold having the one or more features. The method further includes thermoforming the dental appliance over the mold, wherein the one or more features cause the dental appliance to have one or more markings or elements for the cut line. The method further includes removing the dental appliance from the mold, and trimming the dental appliance along the cut line using the one or more markings or elements.
