    Abstract: An electronic device may include a display having a monolithic array of light-emitting diodes mounted to a surface of a substrate layer. The diodes may include contact pads. Driver circuitry may independently drive each of the diodes in the array using drive signals. The driver circuitry may be formed on a driver integrated circuit. Bond pads may be formed on a surface of the integrated circuit. Copper pillars may be grown on the bond pads. In another suitable arrangement, the driver circuitry may be formed on a driver printed circuit board coupled to an interposer by a flexible printed circuit. The interposer may include bond pads and copper pillars grown on the bond pads. The contact pads on each of the diodes may be simultaneously bonded to the copper pillars. A surface of the substrate layer may be patterned to form light redirecting elements if desired.

    Abstract: A display may be formed by an array of light-emitting diodes mounted to the surface of a display substrate. The light-emitting diodes may be inorganic light-emitting diodes formed from separate crystalline semiconductor structures. An array of pixel control circuits may be used to control light emission from the light-emitting diodes. Each pixel control circuit may be configured to control one or more respective passive matrices. To control partial pixel cells in the display, a donor pixel control circuit in a partial pixel cell may control the pixels in a receptor partial pixel cell without a pixel control circuit. To mitigate the size of an inactive area of the display, fanout signal lines for the display may be formed in the light-emitting active area of the display. The fanout signal lines may be formed between a row of pixel control circuits and a bottom edge of the light-emitting active area.

    Abstract: Embodiments describe a display integration scheme in which an array of pixel driver chips embedded front side up in an insulator layer. A front side redistribution layer (RDL) spans across and is in electrical connection with the front sides of the array of pixel driver chips, and an array of light emitting diodes (LEDs) is bonded to the front side RDL. The pixel driver chips may be located directly beneath the display area of the display panel.
