    Abstract: A ducted combustion system is disclosed. The ducted combustion system includes a combustion chamber bound by a flame deck surface of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and by a piston top surface of a piston disposed within the internal combustion engine. The system includes a fuel injector including one or more orifices, the one or more orifices injecting fuel into the combustion chamber as one or more fuel jets. The system includes one or more ducts disposed within the combustion chamber between the flame deck surface and the piston top surface, the one or more ducts being generally tubular shaped structures and being disposed such that each of the one or more fuel jets at least partially enters one of the one or more ducts upon being injected into the combustion chamber.

The ducted combustion system may include a combustion chamber and a fuel injector in fluid connection with the combustion chamber and including at least one orifice opening from an injector tip of the fuel injector, the at least one orifice injecting fuel into the combustion chamber as at least one fuel jet.     Abstract: A fuel introduction system introduces fuel to an internal combustion engine operating on a six-stroke combustion cycle including a first compression stroke, a first power stroke, a second compression stroke, and a second power stroke. The fuel introduction system includes a first orifice set for introducing a first fuel charge to a combustion chamber of the engine during the first compression stroke and/or power stroke and a second orifice set for introducing a second fuel charge to the combustion chamber during the second compression stroke and/or power stroke. Combustion of the second fuel charge can assist in burning particulate matter left in the combustion chamber from combusting the first fuel charge. The first and second orifice sets can be configured to differentiate the first and second fuel charges by, for example, fuel quantity or spray pattern.

    Abstract: A system includes a fuel tank and a dehydration reactor that are configured to provide a primary fuel and a pilot fuel to a power system. The fuel tank is configured to store the primary fuel and is fluidly connected to a reactor feed line and a primary fuel line provide the primary fuel. The dehydration reactor is configured to receive the primary fuel via the reactor feed line and convert a portion of the primary fuel to the pilot fuel and a byproduct. The power system is configured to receive the pilot fuel from the dehydration reactor to initiate combustion of the primary fuel. The power system also includes a cylinder with an internal piston that receives the pilot fuel and the primary fuel, contains the combustion reaction, and generates power from the combustion reaction; and contains the combustion reaction. A pilot fuel injector provides the pilot fuel to the cylinder at a first time to initiate combustion and a primary fuel injector provides the pilot fuel to the cylinder at to generate power via the power system.

    Abstract: An internal combustion engine may include an engine block having a plurality of cylinders therein, with each cylinder being closed by a cylinder head. The internal combustion engine may also include a piston reciprocatingly mounted within each cylinder and defining a combustion chamber therebetween. The internal combustion engine may also include a fuel injector communicating fuel to the combustion chamber, the fuel creating a plurality of flames when ignited. The internal combustion engine may also include a piston crown extending from each piston and defining a piston bowl. The internal combustion engine may also include a rim depending from at least one of the cylinder head and piston and being provided radially inward from the piston crown. The internal combustion engine may also include a passageway configured within at least one of the piston crown and cylinder head and adapted to guide a squish flow between the piston crown, cylinder head and back toward the piston bowl to interact with the plurality of flames within the piston bowl for enhanced combustion.
