The proposed hot-pluggable peripheral input device coupling system is characterized by the provision of at least two management control modules with one serving as a redundant backup module to the other so that in the event of a failure to the active one, the blade server can nevertheless be functionally linked to the externally connected keyboard and mouse via the redundant backup module. The invention can therefore help enhance the efficiency of network system management on blade servers.

An I/O unit access switching system and its method are implemented on a plurality of servers respectively having a baseboard management controller (BMC) and an intelligent platform management system (IPMI). The servers are connected to a switching device, itself connected to a set of I/O devices such as keyboard, mouse, and monitor. When the control module of one server is activated, the BMC of the server delivers an activation signal to the switching device. According to the received activation signal, the switching device transmits an interrupt signal to the microprocessor unit. The microprocessor unit accordingly outputs a switching signal to an I/O function multiplexer that, in response, switches access to the I/O devices to the requesting server from which the activation signal was received. Through the I/O function multiplexer, the I/O devices can then be used in conjunction with the selected server.

The present invention is to provide a method of remotely tripping one of a plurality of blade servers in a rack, each of the blade servers being coupled to a network switch which is in turn coupled to a computer system in a console which, when one of the blade servers is to be replaced, performs the steps of reading an input instruction of tripping a latch used for fastening each of the blade servers to the rack; sending the input instruction to the blade server via the network switch; and causing the blade server to trip the latch from the rack, enabling the management employee to quickly find the location of one blade server to be replaced by identifying each of the latch tripped from the rack in a crowded computer room.
