摘要: The present disclosure relates to fusion formable highly crystalline glass-ceramic articles whose composition lies within the SiO2—R2O3—Li2O/Na2O—TiO2 system and which contain a silicate crystalline phase comprised of lithium aluminosilicate (β-spodumene and/or β-quartz solid solution) lithium metasilicate and/or lithium disilicate. Additionally, these silicate-crystal containing glass-ceramics can exhibit varying Na2O to Li2O molar ratio extending from the surface to the bulk of the glass article, particularly a decreasing Li2O concentration and an increasing Na2O concentration from surface to bulk. According to a second embodiment, disclosed herein is a method for forming a silicate crystalline phase-containing glass ceramic.

摘要: Methods of characterizing and measuring particulate accumulation in a family of particulate filters (10) are disclosed. The disclosure can be applied to diesel, gasoline and natural gas fueled engines, fluid streams bearing dust, and chemical and biological substances such as may be found in laboratory fluids, for example, air. In one embodiment, the disclosure is directed to measuring diesel particulate accumulation in a family of diesel particulate filters. The methods include measuring calibration complex terahertz transmission spectra (PC(f)) of at least a portion (17) of at least one particulate or diesel particulate filter in the family for different known particulate or diesel particulate amounts (ADP). The method also involves performing a partial least squares (PLS) analysis on the calibration complex terahertz transmission spectra to establish a calibration relationship between the complex terahertz transmission spectra and the particulate or diesel particulate amounts. The complex transmission spectrum of a subject particulate filter or diesel particulate filter having an unknown amount of particulate or diesel particulate accumulation is then determined and compared to the linear calibration relationship to establish a measured amount of particulates or diesel particulates. The methods include using a terahertz (THz) system (100) to obtain the complex terahertz transmission spectra for the calibration and subject particulate or diesel particulate filters.

摘要: A silica glass article, such as a lens in a stepper/scanner system, having saturated induced absorption at wavelengths of less than about 250 nm. Saturated induced absorption is achieved by first removing Si—O defects in the silica glass by forming silicon hydride (SiH) at such defects, and loading the silica glass with hydrogen to react with E′ centers formed by photolysis of SiH in the silica glass article. The silicon hydride is formed by loading the silica glass with molecular hydrogen at temperatures of at least 475° C. After formation of SiH, the silica glass is loaded with additional molecular hydrogen at temperatures of less than 475° C.

摘要: The invention is directed to photomachinable glass compositions having a controllable or tunable photosensitivity, and to a method for making such compositions. The compositions of the invention contain titania (TiO2) in an amount in the range of greater than 0.01 wt. % to 2 wt. % added to any known photomachinable glass composition. In one embodiment the TiO2 in an amount in the range of greater than 0.01 wt. % to 1 wt. %. An example of a photomachinable glass of the invention is one having a composition having, in weight percent (wt. %) of 65-80% SiO2, 15-20% Li2O, 1-4% Na2O, 1-4% K2O, 2-10% Al2O3, 0-3% ZnO, 0-0.15% Sb2O3, 0-0.015% CeO2, 0-0.001% Au, 0-0.015% Ag and >0.01% to 2% TiO2, and the sum of Au+Ag is greater than zero. In particular embodiment the TiO2 is in the range of >0.01% to 1%.

摘要: Doped and partially-reduced oxide (e.g., SrTiO3-based) thermoelectric materials. The thermoelectric materials can be single-doped or multi-doped (e.g., co-doped) and display a thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) of 0.2 or higher at 1050K. Methods of forming the thermoelectric materials involve combining and reacting suitable raw materials and heating them in a graphite environment to at least partially reduce the resulting oxide. Optionally, a reducing agent such as titanium carbide can be incorporated into the starting materials prior to the reducing step in graphite. The reaction product can be sintered to form a dense thermoelectric material.
