摘要: Opal glass compositions and devices incorporating opal glass compositions are described herein. The compositions solve problems associated with the use of opal glasses as light-scattering layers in electroluminescent devices, such as organic light-emitting diodes. In particular, embodiments solve the problem of high light absorption within the opal glass layer as well as the problem of an insufficiently high refractive index that results in poor light collection by the layer. Particular devices comprise light-emitting diodes incorporating light scattering layers formed of high-index opal glasses of high light scattering power that exhibit minimal light attenuation through light absorption within the matrix phases of the glasses.

摘要: An internally nucleated, toughened cordierite glass-ceramic is disclosed. The cordierite glass-ceramic has good oxidation resistance and fracture toughness and coefficient of thermal expansion rivaling that of silicon nitride. The glass-ceramic may be cast as a liquid. Annealing produces a material of high crystallinity combining high hardness, high Young's modulus, good thermal stability, high strength, low density and good dielectric properties. The glass-ceramic comprises interlocking crystalline phases dominated by cordierite and a second phase having an elongated or acicular structure. A third phase may comprise a crystalline ceramic that promotes acicularity of the second phase. The third phase is preferably capable of twinning.

摘要: The invention is directed to a honeycomb comprising cordierite and β-spudomene, the honeycomb having a having total porosity of greater than 30% and a mean pore diameter of less than 5 μm. The honeycomb is made from a mixture of activated kaolin and a mineral selected from the group consisting of lithium fluorhectorite, lithium hydroxyhectorite and mixtures thereof. In one embodiment up to 20 wt % weight SiO2, based on the total weight of the kaolin and minerals (fluorhectorite, hydroxyhectorite) is added and mixed therein prior to the formation of the green body. In another embodiment the amount of added SiO2 is up to 10 wt %. In one embodiment the total porosity is greater than 50% and the mean pore diameter is less than 5 μm.

摘要: A method of forming a solid, dense, hermetic lithium-ion electrolyte membrane comprises combing an amorphous, glassy, or low melting temperature solid reactant with a refractory oxide reactant to form a mixture, casting the mixture to form a green body, and sintering the green body to form a solid membrane. The resulting electrolyte membranes can be incorporated into lithium-ion batteries.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to fusion formable highly crystalline glass-ceramic articles whose composition lies within the SiO2—R2O3—Li2O/Na2O—TiO2 system and which contain a silicate crystalline phase comprised of lithium aluminosilicate (β-spodumene and/or β-quartz solid solution) lithium metasilicate and/or lithium disilicate. Additionally, these silicate-crystal containing glass-ceramics can exhibit varying Na2O to Li2O molar ratio extending from the surface to the bulk of the glass article, particularly a decreasing Li2O concentration and an increasing Na2O concentration from surface to bulk. According to a second embodiment, disclosed herein is a method for forming a silicate crystalline phase-containing glass ceramic.

摘要: The invention is directed to a honeycomb comprising cordierite and beta-spudomene, the honeycomb a having total porosity of greater than 30% and a mean pore diameter of less than 5 μm. The honeycomb is made from a mixture of activated kaolin and a mineral selected from the group consisting of lithium fluorhectorite, lithium hydroxyhectorite and mixtures thereof. In one embodiment up to 20 wt % SiO2, based on the total weight of the kaolin and minerals (fluarhectorite, hydroxyhectorite) is added and mixed therein prior to the formation of the green body. In another embodiment the amount of added SiO2 is up to 10 wt %. In one embodiment the total porosity is greater than 50% and the mean pore diameter is less than 5 μm.

摘要: Geopolymer composite materials having low coefficient of thermal expansion are disclosed. The materials are useful in high temperature applications due to their low coefficient of thermal expansion and high strength. Also disclosed is a boron modified water glass geopolymer composition that is compatible with ceramic particulate material such as cordierite and fused silica. The geopolymer composite may be extruded to form structures such as honeycomb monoliths, flow filters or used as a plugging or skinning cement and may be fired at temperatures at or below 1100° C. Both the structures and the cement have high green and fired strength, a low coefficient of thermal expansion, and good acid durability. The cost of manufacturing objects using the material of the present invention is substantially reduced, in comparison with typically production methods of cordierite based bodies, due to the substantially shortened firing times.
