Abstract:
A process is disclosed for preparation of anhydrides containing additional carboxylic acid moieties and dianhydrides of disubstituted maleic anhydride compounds wherein the acid anhydrides and dianhydrides retain their alkene character. The resulting alkene compounds are useful as precursors for polyesters, thermally stable polyamide-imides and polyimides which are also disclosed, as well as a process for their preparation.
Abstract:
A process for hydration and condensation of acetylene in a crude acetylene stream containing water in the presence of a zirconia-alumina catalyst containing water to prepare aliphatic, aromatic and oxygenated compounds suitable for use as high octane liquid water fuels and as octane improvers for motor fuels is disclosed.
Abstract:
Phosphites and phosphates of 3-sulfoxy-1,2-propylene glycols are taught as new compositions of matter. These compounds are useful as co-surfactants in enhanced oil recovery.
Abstract:
Novel polyimides, copolyimides and molding compositions are prepared from novel dianhydrides such as tricyclo[6.4.0.0.sup.2,7 ] dodecane-3,6-diphenyl-1,8,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and tricyclo-[6.4.0.0.sup.2,7 ] dodecane-1,8,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. The novel polyimides are useful as engineering plastics. The novel dianhydrides are useful for the preparation of the polyimides. Other dianhydrides can be mixed with our novel dianhydrides to make novel copolyimides useful as engineering plastics.
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel polyimides-polyamides and copolyimides-polyamides prepared from the novel nonaromatic dianhydrides or mixtures of these with other dianhydrides. Tricyclo [4.2.1.0.sup.2,5 ] nonane-3,4-dimethyl-3,4,7,8-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (I). I is used to prepare novel polyimides-polyamides which are useful in preparing molded articles, fibers, laminates and coatings.
Abstract:
Silver/transition metal catalysts are made by calcining the polysilver salt of a polycarboxylic acid and at least one transition metal salt of an organic polycarboxylic acid at temperatures from 200-500.degree. C., and oxidizing the said calcined salts with oxygen at temperatures from 20-500.degree. C.
Abstract:
Beta-hydroxyalkylsulfoxides are prepared by reacting an olefin and a thiol with oxygen in the presence of a dye sensitizer using visible light as an energy source at a temperature from -10.degree. to 70.degree. C.
Abstract:
Process for coupling alkyl esters of polyalkylbenzoic acid to prepare polyalkylbiphenylpolycarboxylic acid compounds which comprises anodically oxidizing said alkyl esters in a non-nucleophilic media by applying a source of direct current in liquid phase at atmospheric pressure and temperatures from -30.degree. to 80.degree. C. The biphenyl acid compounds are useful in the formation of polyester resins, including alkyds, and fiber-forming polymers.
